"Something Wicked This Way Comes" by Ray Bradbury
it's been a bit busy, but glad to have this reread during October (and a bit of November). while some things have clearly aged, Bradbury's lurid descriptions are still ample fuel for the mind's eye. also, the audiobook for this was very nice!

"We'll Prescribe You a Cat" by Syou Ishida
supremely heartfelt, this one showcases the impact that furry friends can have on us at all stages of life, how they can open us up to more than we thought ourselves capable of. a nice quick read to give yourself a smile

"The Disappearance of Adèle Bedeau" by Graeme Macrae Burnett
another book club selection! a very pessimistic depiction the world that, while engaging, leaves behind a hollow feeling. also, essentially only male characters have agency in this, so definitely showing its age

"Isabella Nagg and the Pot of Basil" by @deathbybadger.bsky.social
witty, evocative, and incredibly fulfilling, this book had me on the edge of my seat more than anything else recently. so good that it has revived an old habit of staying up too late on school nights to finish up a great book :)

"The Stepford Wives" by Ira Levin.
extremely digestible, this is an interesting experience in seeing how critiques of patriarchy have remained relevant for over 50 years now. another banger from the local book club

"The Caretaker" by Ron Rash.
very enjoyable, with a few spots that hit me emotionally more than I thought it would. not groundbreaking but it is a solid book club read (which is what I read it for)

"If I Were A Racist: Exploring Racism in Music Teaching" by Nathan Holder.
a very quick read but touches on a lot that makes me reflect on my own pedagogy. much of what the book says is reflected in my teaching, but it still challenges me to do more. a good read for any music educator

"Model Home" by @riverssolomon.bsky.social.
gripping, this book is the embodiment of "haunted by trauma." it is filled by characters who do not have their shit figured out, who are desperate to avoid repeating their parents' mistakes. i felt enraptured, knowing the horror within us has no face

12/9 - Foster by Claire Keegan
checked it out for a local book club and glad i did! wonderfully immersive imagery that uses its rural locale to tell the story of family, grief, and family found again
