I miss rural newspapers where the headlines were nice and big.

Had a great Canada Day week, including watching the @bluejays.com beat the Yankees in Toronto.

Way-too-early-in-the-morning heading-to-the-airport looks. (I also wore shoes and a jacket to the airport — you will have to imagine those yourself)
Me, a tall figure with medium-length brown hair and peachy skin. I'm wearing a black t-shirt with a white maple leaf with "Canada" printed underneath. I'm also wearing a black denim skirt that goes to just above my knees, black leggings, and red-and-blue striped socks. step 2: done! I think I have a slight preference to the look of my hand-lettering, but I think I'll stick with this typeface while I refine the legibility of my hand-drawn tag images.

An electronic bag tag, the same one in the first post in the thread. It now has yellow duct tape covering the outer frame, though the duct tape is translucent enough that the dark blue plastic is somewhat visible. On one edge, an approximation of the Caltrain logo is drawn in black and red sharpie. The e-ink display has the text "San Jose" hand-drawn.

I use @caltrain.com to bring my bike to a bunch of different places along the Bay, so I was looking for a good way to tag my bike's destination without having multiple tags. My brilliant wife @ellenteapot.ca came up with the idea to re-use an e-ink baggage tag!

More weird li'l fellows
On a square pink sticky note, six silly faces are sketched in blue pencil. Face 1 is kinda dazed, with a wavy mouth featuring two big teeth on opposite sides. Face 2 is small and grumpy, with eyes like sideways commas. Face 3 has wide eyes, a wide nose, upward-U-shaped eyebrows, and a slight smile. Face 4 has square eyes, an angular nose, and gritted teeth. Face 5 has just pupils for eyes, straight-line eyebrows, and a sad-looking mouth that I shaded in a bit too much, like too much lipstick. Face 6 looks downright devious, with a wavy unibrow, half-circle eyes, and a grin with teeth ready to eat.

Sketched some weird li'l fellows
A page of about eight roughly-sketched faces, most consisting of just a couple eyes and a mouth, some with eyebrows. Big White, British Columbia, Canada. Skiing here this week has been a delight.
A snowy mountain landscape, where powder-swept trees poke out here and there against the white slope. Small details can barely be seen: a sign indicating ski runs, and a T-Bar carrying skiers near the slope's edge. In the background, mountains beyond mountains are lined with trees as they meet the grey puffy clouds above. A sunbeam passes through the layer of clouds, illuminating just a portion of the snow below in a brilliant white that makes the rest of the powder look grey.

First time taking my bike on Caltrain today! I wouldn't have done this pre-electrification — too heavy to bring it up the stairs of a gallery car — but the new trains make it pretty easy.
A longtail cargo e-bike (a Tern GSD R14) with a grey frame is parked inside a train car. I've been taking a break from posting to take care of other stuff in my life, like this bus stop I adopted. At least once a week I gotta stop by and pick up litter, make sure it's looking clean, and chase away any urban planners trying to reduce service frequency

Got a pretty good photo last night
Above a tree-lined grove, faint green ribbons of aurora borealis illuminate a night sky dotted by points of light from faraway stars. In the grove, silhouettes of vehicles can be seen along the ground, some partially lit by colourful reflections. The light that casts these reflections is also projected upon a large drive-in theatre screen, where a young Anakin Skywalker sits on the counter of a shop across from Watto. Subtitles on the screen read “Outlanders. They think we know nothing.”

Can't wait for the Heritage Minute on the signing of the Treaty of Algeron

Body text: People tend to overstate their awareness of current events. To get a true measure of news recall, we asked Canadians how much attention they paid to a fake news story - "the Government of Canada signing the Treaty of Algeron". This was not an actual news story from 2023, but rather a Star Trek treaty between the United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Empire. For the rest of this deck we are reporting "true recall" levels, which are calculated by subtracting recall levels for "the Treaty of Algeron" from the recall levels for each news story recorded on the poll. A bar graph shows the same question and results from the quoted Polling Canada post. An inset reads "Men (22%) and young people (25%) are more likely to report being aware of this "fake news" story".
