There's no evidence that opossums eat any ticks, but it's a common myth (www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...).

I asked ChatGPT & Copilot, "Do opossums eat ticks?"

Both confidently: "yes, thousands per week!". I then prompted, "Isn't it a myth?" And both answered: "yes, it's been debunked!"

Not sure why I'm thinking of this today.

Tomorrow: webinar with @ruthtimme.bsky.social, "Improving Global Pathogen Surveillance: Leveraging Open Science Through Standardized Protocols". go.springernature.com/improving-gl...

Let's not forget that the war on science isn't a Trump anomaly; it's a sustained long-term effort of the Republican Party.

I was shocked in 2015 when I looked at the official Twitter feed of the US House Committee on Science, Space & Tech. web.archive.org/web/20160203... 1/3

Hello. We try to follow best practices for accessibility, and that's the reason for the layout. But if you go to your general settings in protocols.io, you can switch to the dark mode easily.

We reached 20,000 public protocols today on @protocolsio.bsky.social! (I remember how no one knew that we exist after launch and how we only got to 1,000 public protocols in the first 3 years.) www.protocols.io/help/faq#q-7

And a related note that the journal Lab Animal has partnered with us and now explicitly welcomes protocols for peer review. 2/2

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to ask this question! From the day we launched, we made it explicit in our TOS that the content belongs to the users. 1/n

And yes, we did just add "share on @bsky.app" to @protocolsio.bsky.social just as @altmetric.com recommended bsky.app/profile/altm.... (Thank you for the nudge

Twitter used to be the second-highest source of traffic to protocols.io as researchers shared their public methods (highest was Google). Today, 0.1% of our monthly traffic is from Twitter.

I'm hopeful for the growth of the research community on Bluesky & sad about the senseless demise of Twitter.

Great to see this new initiative from @creativecommons.bsky.social and CZI! creativecommons.org/2023/10/04/c...

A lot of food for thought in the struggles of Dr. Karikó's mRNA work that led to the Nobel Prize today.

That includes the fact that top journals rejected her work. www.nytimes.com/2023/10/02/h...

A powerful reminder of the importance of improving, accelerating, and opening science communication.

Is this possible?

I glanced at a few identical posts on Bluesky versus ScienceTwitter. Engagement is like 50x higher on Bluesky, if you normalize to follower count.
