600+ hours and 2 years of research, my painting of a chayote vine is finally finished. I’ll be doing a painting reveal and making an announcement in my upcoming newsletter. Please consider subscribing on my website: www.lsfineart.com

I thought I’d post a few more pictures of my chayote vine painting, currently a WIP. The first two pictures are scans, and the last one is a photo. None of these are an accurate depiction of real life colors, although I’d say scans are the closest 🙃 #GreenHeart #SciArt #botanicalart #watercolor #art

Coming back to social media after suffering a profound loss is the strangest thing. I’ve been struggling to find the words to express how I feel. Wondering what to say… or if I should say anything at all. (Continued in the alt text section.)

As my beautiful rose is fading away, I’ll be relying on my extensive color studies to continue working on this painting.

P.S. I currently have LOTS of rose paintings in progress! Stay tuned 💖

Thank you, Daniel! I hope Tuscany will get there by the end of this summer 🥹 Or maybe next year, then… Here’s a second rose I planted: a modern hybrid called Pierre Hermé: this rose was chosen by a famous French pastry chef Pierre Hermé himself, to be named in his honor 😍 it’s very fragrant!

Unfortunately, my Tuscany has produced blind shoots so I’ll be pruning it this weekend 🥹 On the bright side though, my Gertrude Jekyll is currently in bloom, so I’m doing some color studies:

Hello, friends. It’s been awhile. I had COVID and was sick for 15 days. I’m working on arums this weekend: I sketched the flowers yesterday, and now, I need to sketch the leaf, which is the most difficult part.

Here’s one more progress photo of my Tulipa Black Parrot. I don’t usually post so often, but why not, since I’m very happy with today’s progress and it’s #TulipTuesday 🙂

It’s been a difficult week health-wise but since I’m feeling better today, I’m painting tulips.

Currently testing Fabriano’s Soft Press paper for watercolor. This paper is unique to Fabriano. The Soft Press paper has a slight tooth, so it’s somewhere between the roughness of Cold Press and the smoothness of Hot Press. #watercolor #art #painting #traditionalart

WIP. Capturing chayote’s texture with the help of a 4/0 brush and my beloved OptiVISOR headband with 2.5x magnification. I could probably use a nib to mask all of these tiny dots and lines, but I’d rather not. Masking fluid gives me headaches 😆 #SciArt #botanicalart #GreenHeart #watercolor #painting

I do mix my own greens, too! Ahh, I don’t have Quinacridone Gold, but I have a lot of other yellows in my palette. Winsor Yellow is great. I’ve been experimenting with Daniel Smith’s Hansa Yellow Light and Dark a lot recently. The only yellow I don’t use is Aureolin: it’s an unstable pigment.

Thank you, Ross! Well, I wasn’t able to meet the deadline after all 💔 My home scanner did an awful job (bluriness & artificial greens, so all subtle color transitions are lost), but I only really did detail work on a circled area, so there is still a lot of work to do 😓

‘Memory Reboot’ explores a sense of belonging, and was inspired by B&W photograph of myself at the age of 3. My goal was to turn a photo from a family archive into something new, thus making it a part of my own personal visual narrative. #watercolor #painting #traditionalart #WatercolorArt #art

I took a break from social media, but I’m back with a photo of daffodils. I celebrated my 35th birthday last week, and daffodils are my birth month flowers. They stand for new beginnings and creativity. What’s your birth month flower? #daffodil #GreenHeart #bloomscrolling #flowerfeed #flowerfriday

WIP. Botanical art is slow art. I’ve been working on this small section of a chayote leaf for 3 days now, gradually building up the intensity and depth of color with a dry brush. Nothing to write home about…
