I thought I’d post a few more pictures of my chayote vine painting, currently a WIP. The first two pictures are scans, and the last one is a photo. Coming back to social media after suffering a profound loss is the strangest thing. I’ve been struggling to find the words to express how I feel. Wondering what to say… or if I should say anything at all. (Continued in the alt text section.)

Is this too personal to share? Should I just resume my posts as if nothing has happened? But then again, how could I possibly pretend that I’m okay when I’ve been struggling so much? In June, my mom celebrated her 66th birthday in a hospital and died a few days later. My heart shattered into millions of pieces. I thought I wouldn’t be able to paint at all. Then, a few days ago, I felt like picking up my brushes to process my feelings, thoughts and emotions. My grief. I’m not ready to share what I’m working on just yet. All I’ll say is that it’s a figurative piece that is full of powerful symbolism. A tribute through creation as I learn to navigate life after loss… Rest in peace, mom.

Thank you, Daniel! I hope Tuscany will get there by the end of this summer 🥹 Or maybe next year, then… Here’s a second rose I planted: a modern hybrid called Pierre Hermé: this rose was chosen by a famous French pastry chef Pierre Hermé himself, to be named in his honor 😍 it’s very fragrant!

Hello, friends. It’s been awhile. I had COVID and was sick for 15 days. I’m working on arums this weekend: I sketched the flowers yesterday, and now, I need to sketch the leaf, which is the most difficult part.

I’ve been very, very sick for over a week now, but how could I miss Botanical Art Worldwide? Every May 18 commemorates the Worldwide Day of Botanical Art. Today, botanical art societies and artists from around the world come together to celebrate the renaissance of botanical art by holding exhibitions in their respective countries. The 2025 focus is on the theme of crop diversity, and I will be joining an exhibition held by VBKB, a Society of Botanical Artists in Belgium, later this year with my painting of a chayote vine (currently still a work in progress). Je suis très malade depuis plus d’une semaine, mais comment aurais-je pu manquer Botanical Art Worldwide ? Chaque 18 mai commémore la Journée mondiale de l’art botanique. Aujourd’hui, des sociétés d’art botanique et des artistes du monde entier se réunissent pour célébrer la renaissance de l’art botanique en organisant des expositions dans leurs pays respectifs. L’édition 2025 sera consacrée à la diversité des plantes cultivées dans les industries pharmaceutiques, cosmétiques, alimentaires et même du textile, et je participerai à une exposition organisée par la VBKB, une société d’artistes botaniques belges, plus tard cette année, avec ma peinture d’une chayotte (encore en cours de réalisation).

My upcoming group exhibition in Montgermont, France The inspiration for this watercolor painting came from many trips my husband and I took to the Lake Annecy. Located in the Alps (Haute-Savoie region), it’s the second largest lake of glacial origin in France. Like so many others, I’m drawn to the water and nature so, of course, Lake Annecy is one of my favorite places in France, and the one I can never get enough of. This is where mountains, the sky and the lake exist in perfect harmony. Lake Annecy’s idyllic, crystal-clear water with gorgeous hues of sapphire and turquoise makes me believe that this place holds a magic. While I did work from photographs that I’ve taken on our trips to Lake Annecy, I mostly painted from memory. I didn’t just want to paint a beautiful lake, I wanted to paint the *feeling* of it. The late afternoon light sparkling on the water, the sound of lake waves hitting gently against the boats, the whole beautiful sensory experience of spending time at the lake. ‘Clearest Blue’. 12 x 16 “ | 31 x 41 cm Transparent watercolor on Arches Hot Pressed paper. This painting explores identity and a sense of belonging. It was inspired by a black-and-white photo of myself at the age of three. Looking at old photographs from my family archive always evokes emotions in me. They’re a part of my legacy and a window into my life: precious moments captured on camera, and cherished memories that I want to hold onto forever. However, in my eyes, old family photos are not just a thing of the past or a distant memory, but a link between the past and the present… And so, as I was flipping through the pages of my photo album, I had a moment where I thought to myself, “Why not transform these blurry photographs into something new?” Of course, I was not interested in merely copying the reference photo but rather, my goal was to make it a part of my own personal visual narrative. To create this piece, I used a mix of Windsor Blue and Light Red. I also added a hint of Mars Black to accentuate a couple of details. I believe that light plays a huge role when creating an atmosphere, and in my painting, the elements of light shining out of the darkness help the viewer experience that atmosphere. Highlights were preserved by leaving the white of the paper unpainted, and fabric texture was conveyed with a dry brush. ‘Memory Reboot’ ≈ A3 | 31 x '41 cm | 12” x 16” Transparent watercolor on paper

Currently testing Fabriano’s Soft Press paper for watercolor. This paper is unique to Fabriano. The Soft Press paper has a slight tooth, so it’s somewhere between the roughness of Cold Press and the smoothness of Hot Press. #watercolor #art #painting #traditionalart

WIP. Capturing chayote’s texture with the help of a 4/0 brush and my beloved OptiVISOR headband with 2.5x magnification. I could probably use a nib to mask all of these tiny dots and lines, but I’d rather not. Masking fluid gives me headaches 😆 #SciArt #botanicalart #GreenHeart #watercolor #painting

I do mix my own greens, too! Ahh, I don’t have Quinacridone Gold, but I have a lot of other yellows in my palette. Winsor Yellow is great. I’ve been experimenting with Daniel Smith’s Hansa Yellow Light and Dark a lot recently. The only yellow I don’t use is Aureolin: it’s an unstable pigment.

Thank you, Ross! Well, I wasn’t able to meet the deadline after all 💔 My home scanner did an awful job (bluriness & artificial greens, so all subtle color transitions are lost), but I only really did detail work on a circled area, so there is still a lot of work to do 😓

1. For this painting, I settled on a photograph of myself at the age of 3. To create this piece, I used a mix of Winsor & Newton’s Winsor Blue and Light Red (with just a hint of Mars Black to accentuate a couple of details) on Arches cold pressed watercolor paper. 2. I used the white of the paper for highlights. No masking fluid. No white gouache. In my opinion, highlights in watercolor paintings are best preserved by simply painting around them. 3. If you zoom in, you can have a closer look at my dry brush work, which is the technique I used to convey the fabric texture. 4. I believe that light plays a huge role when creating an atmosphere, and the elements of light shining out of the darkness help the viewer experience that atmosphere. 5. An elegant white passepartout (window mat) works beautifully with this painting! I love how it elevates the artwork. Looking at old photographs from my family archive always evokes emotions in me.
