Canada’s $10-a-day child care program is cutting fees—but is it creating enough spaces? My new report from @policyalternatives.ca shows big promises, mixed results, and a growing role for for-profit care. Here’s what the data tells us🧵👇👇👇

Trudeau could be a deeply infuriating politician, but the federal childcare program quite literally changed our life. It's the single reason we could afford for my partner to work and have this career that she loves and is passionate about, and it's one thing I'll always be incredibly grateful for.

It is very concerning. The same is happening in early childhood education. In our sector, it’s a retention problem, not necessarily recruitment.
We are witnessing an exodus from the caring professions.

Educators. Nurses. Mental health providers. Family physicians.

Everywhere I look, I see stories of caring people who are so burned out that they can no longer continue to serve.

And this breaks my heart.

Your baby doesn’t just love looking at your face - they STUDY it.

Eye tracking research suggests that babies focus their attention on two areas of special interest: the eyes and the mouth.
