These lots on Main Ave are nearly identical. Same size, same block, same amount of frontage.

The left paid $3615 in property taxes this year. The right paid $19108.

If you’re wondering how the debate is going on the city’s parking tax ordinance, it’s this

I don’t love seeing this monoculture-ass development, but at least there’s a shared use path and it’s connected to the path network

If the schools bond passes, I think we may get a bike route through Franklin Park at Rowan due to a sports complex being built.

Rowan is a great east-west route, but is currently interrupted by the park.

I hear Parks Dept is quite amenable to a path!

It’s the best kind of day — FRESH KERMIT DAY!

This is meant to help Elm St Greenway (the first leg of 27x27!) users cross Boone, where Elm does a little jog.

4 (four!!!) Washington police departments didn’t realize they were sharing invasive Flock data with the feds until a UW report this week.

I’m no lawyer but I’d be hard-pressed to see how that doesn’t violate Keep Washington Working.

If the levy passes and the trail is built, it would fill a gap in a route from Riverfront, past Manito, to 33rd.

The route would be entirely bike lanes, trail, and calm neighborhood streets.

It runs *over* Stevens and the crossing at 29th already has an RRFB, so no tough arterial crossings!

It’s a smaller park tucked into the lower south hill. It gains 150ft of elevation in ~three city blocks (steep!).

The trail would roughly follow this path, but it would meander more in order to flatten out the grade.

The Rivian ebike has launched — probably the most anticipated ebike launch in the last few years.

ridealso.com

- 2 (and 4!) wheeled versions
- love a transparent plastic
- belt drive (obviously)
- fascinating round display (looks e-ink maybe?)

Okay DMd you some thoughts, but couldn’t attach an image, so here’s a visual of what I’d recommend!

It should work well both to and from work.

It's a GREAT bikes day in Spokane.

- Belt cycle track is hardened!
- Elm Street Greenway has its bikeway sign and 27x2027 goat sharrow!

There are folks on bikes everywhere, and because it’s such a high-trust society, very few of the bikes are locked up.

And of course 180mph trains and 3min subway headways in pristine stations are amazing

One particularly delightful detail is the manhole covers

I know everyone is probably tired of hearing this, but Japan’s streets/transportation/land use is pretty great.

Every street that is not an arterial is a shared street, where folks ride and walk in the middle and make way for the occasional car.

Phase 2: a new trail will be constructed down the bluff in/near High Bridge Dog Park, from 5th down to Latah Creek. This is steep AF so will require a handful of switchbacks.

It will include some lighting and an enhanced crosswalk on A Street.

(routing is approximate here)
August 27, 2025 at 4:35 AM
Phase 1 also includes a swooping spur from the Fish Lake Trail down to Thorpe Road, along with:

- lighting in the Thorpe tunnel (it being as dark and narrow as it is today means it's very hard for drivers to see cyclists)
- a way for cyclists to trigger a "Cyclist in tunnel" flashing light
August 27, 2025 at 4:35 AM
Phase 1: a new trail will be constructed from the Fish Lake trailhead north along Govt Way to 5th Ave, sporting:

- raised midblock crosswalk 😍 on Lindeke
- enhanced crosswalk (RRFB) at Hartson
- enhanced crosswalk at 5th

The trail will be 12ft wide, running ~4ft from the curb.

Centennial Trail <-> Fish Lake Trail connection project

Attended a public meeting tonight where I learned some details about the design of this critical connection between Spokane's most popular trails

PS the project also connects the Sunset Path and the South Gorge Trail, so that makes four! 4️⃣

Hey what if Upriver Drive between Avista and Maringo looked like this

1. It would be more comfortable to walk/run/ride in because it’s nicer to share space with other cyclists and runners than to hope a driver doesn’t cut into the bike lane/shoulder.
