After rounds of program devaluation, I don't see how this latest move seeks to appease Starbucks customers.

Nothing like having a health scare, being forced to face your mortality, that makes you recalibrate your priorities in life. What's life without good health and family love? The rest are just peripherals.

In-flight entertainment is great for watching trashy movies that you'd never want to spend a dime on watching in a cinema. Such a movie is: Jurassic Park Rebirth.

Companies in Asia use WhatsApp as their main mode of communication - blurring the line between personal and work life. Was on vacation last week, and it bothered me when my colleagues kept crossing the boundary with WA messages. Didn't have this problem back in Europe. Tips on how to deal with it?

Recently, I learned that in Korea, lunch hours are scheduled, and staggered—everyone gets assigned to a lunch group. My first reaction? That sounds dystopian.

But then I realized: I can't remember the last time I had a full, uninterrupted hour to eat.

Maybe "regimented lunch" isn't the enemy.

With the world slowly imploding, sometimes it feels a little hypocritical to continue going about our life per normal. I'm blessed to be in #Singapore - removed from the geopolitical turmoil. Foreign friends complain that Singapore is sterile. I won't have it any other way. For now.

Train disruptions in Singapore since 1st July. It's a low low low benchmark, I know, but I am glad that it's nowhere near as bad as #DeutscheBahn

Bad religion? No. Bad people.
Bad technology? No. Bad people.
Bad media? No. Bad people.

The tools aren't broken. The users are.

One of the things I hate most about being in the corporate world is that I need to use Meta services again: WhatsApp, Instagram. The world will be in a much better place without Meta and its products and services.

I asked my dad if the current situation reminds him of the 1998 tragedy, when he had his shops ransacked and burnt to ashes by angry mobs, and he, as Indo-Chinese, had to live in fear for weeks after that.

He said "Yes". I am sad for #Indonesia. I am even sadder for its people.

I don't know which more of a circus - the Thai or American politics.

It'll be cool to start using a dumb phone again. When a phone is just a phone. For calls. For texting.

This is a common problem that cripples most heritage brands. The "it's always been done this way" or "we'd tried it before, but it didn't work" mentality prevails; most people are still content living in their past glory, unaware that what's good today will be gone tomorrow.

Christmas, Chinese New Year, and National Day. Just like birthdays. They become more meaningless and muted over time. Is it the world that's filled with more distractions, or just me getting older?

The recent brouhaha in the OverEmployment subreddit. Is that a US phenomenon? I don't get it. Why do people do it? Purely for the quick bucks? There's no way that's even possible in Singapore. We can hardly survive the one job we have 😅

My desk is a monument to detachment. No photos, no trinkets, not even my own pen - everything belongs to the company. I've learned that goodbyes are easier when you travel light.
The only exception: my Nespresso machine. It's the sole flicker of joy in this fluorescent wasteland. #CorporateLife

Been back to Asia for 8 months now. Haven't found the impetus to visit my dad and sister in Jakarta. Just the thought of a crowded Soekarno-Hatta airport and the city murderous traffic - they're my greatest inertia to booking a flight there.

Living in Düsseldorf has turned me to be a pizza snob. Went to my pizza restaurant in Singapore last night. I used to think their pizza was awesome. I mean, they're still better than average in SG. But nowhere near to my favourite pizzeria in Düsseldorf.
