2025 Awards Eligibility

I had five stories come out this year -
if you are reading for awards I’d be really grateful if you gave them your consideration, or maybe even told a friend.

(My graphic is very bad but in my defence I don’t know what I’m doing)

incredible scenes at the Hungarian Museum of Natural History. Four floors, of which two are almost completely empty - just blank corridors. One floor of dinosaurs and minerals and then the top floor is taxidermied specimens all walking into a gigantic Noah’s Ark. You have to admire their game

It’s been an odd week. The practicalities of death, the brilliance of palliative care. My turn on the Great Universal Experience.

I took a pretty picture, though. Which was nice.

One week later and I am still building on sand. Torn between giving it up as a bad idea and feeling like until I solve it I won’t be able to write anything else.

For the release of ‘Unit Six: Intro to Manticores’, I was asked to complete a short interview about my inspiration. I did, but I told them frankly they might not want to publish the answer. They uh, agreed with me.

So. Here, for the very first time. Two years on. The truth behind my inspiration.

I had a dark night of the soul about all this in October and the evidence of this has been hanging over my kitchen table ever since. I need to wipe it away really because now there’s nowhere to put the shopping list.

Moment of absolute cosmic bizarreness -

I walked past a book fair this afternoon and stopped to look around. Found this 71 year old short story magazine, complete with a story by my great grandfather:

One of my frustrations as a writer is that I never know the right terms for architecture or furniture.

(One of many, obviously)

Three weeks ago I sent my grandmother a picture of a type of church ceiling and asked what the name of the technique was.

Today I got these in the post.
