A man in Indiana made an AT-AT costume for his horse, intending to only get a few pictures before removing it. When he took off the headpiece the horse got upset and insisted that he put it back on, which made the horse happy again. Now the horse isn't allowing him to remove any piece of the costume

our backyard is full of garter snakes. I catch them all the time. every once in a while a braver one will bite me and hold on and look up like "am I killing you? are you dying yet?" and I just smile and tell them they're doing a great job

Lonely in the low country today. We haven't seen a single cruising boat, just go-fast fishing skiffs full of camo-wearing guys avoiding their families.

If you follow enough artists and comedians, soon the philosophers will show up in your feed. Is the opposite also true?

I've been feeling intimidated by all the fine artists I'm following: painters, sculptors, potters, sketchers, photographers! So skilled in their mysterious ways! And then one of them said, "I wish I knew how to sew," and I felt pulled into their circle.

Day 23 #artadventcalendar I'm grateful that the charity takes photos of my quilts because that is difficult for me to do. But I'm sorry they cut off the top of this one so you can't see the first row of neat orphan blocks. #quiltsky

Day 22 #artadventcalendar Red, white and blue pieces are often chosen by veterans who receive the quilts from the charity I support, called Covered in Love. #quiltsky

Day 21 #artadventcalendar Orphaned at the beginning: The donor of this fabric had done all the precise cutting out of equilateral triangles but said that sewing them together was intimidating. I was tickled to do the rest of the kaleidoscope work because I find the cutting a bit tedious. #quiltsky

Yum! Fun fact: my husband @slwelsh.bsky.social hates avocados, but has a savant's touch for picking perfectly ripe ones. I call him the Avocado Whisperer. I asked him if he would pick this one and he said, "I don't know. I never see them from the inside."
Happy Thursday and please enjoy this avocado for #ArtAdventCalendar today. #watercolor on paper

Day 20 #artadventcalendar A sideways photo of a three column quilt. Pairs of orphan blocks allow for mostly symmetric outer columns while singletons march down the center. #quiltsky

Day 19 #artadventcalendar I often wonder why a maker abandons a projects and ends up donating it. This little neighborhood was beautifully pieced with great fabric choices, and only needed a border of friendly blocks to make it large enough to comfort an ill patient. #quiltsky

Day 18 #artadventcalendar I love a good chicken fabric and used this border fabric to set the color scheme. #quiltsky

it does not matter how amazing your portfolio is, or where you went to school, or what your résumé looks like — nobody wants to work with a talented asshole.

first be a good human, then be a good artist or designer.
