So the pope has died. I left the catholic church many years ago, but I did admire this pope for his humility and advocacy for peace. I hope his influence will outlive him, and that people of faith will reconsider their role in our society with an eye towards justice.

As a retired federal employee, I am appalled by the meat axe firings of our civil servants. Is there waste, fraud, or abuse in the federal ranks? Yes. But this is a foolhardy way to address it. The overwhelming majority of us deliver good value for our pay. This is just wrong.
