A bit about me to properly introduce myself on here:

🔍I am a researcher @cascaderesearch.bsky.social in Cardiff, Wales. I am interested in how we can support families and communities so children can remain with the people who love them - not come into care. This includes a focus on kinship care.

A reminder.

Only 6.9% of people in Wales were born overseas.

Just 2.9% of people in Caerphilly were born overseas.

Whereas 38% of medical consultants in Wales were born overseas.

Immigrants are not holding our NHS back, they are propping it up.

Kinship care is more prevalent than foster care or adoption, but we know less about these families.

This #KinshipCareWeek, check out our latest blog 'What we still don't know about kinship care' and get in touch with us about your priorities for kinship care!

The UK Treasury has screwed Wales again!

They've now classed a railway line running for Oxford to Cambridge as an "England and WALES" project.

This robs Wales over £300m+ whereas Scotland and NI get their cash.

It's a disgrace that this is still happening after the HS2 robbery.

When I saw this film last month I was keen to invite @omarmohamedsw.bsky.social to Wales. His film powerfully explores the experiences of care experienced people and activists Philadelphia trying to change the social care system. There are a lot of messages I think we can learn from here in Wales.
We invite you to the screening of "Towards Brotherly Love: Care, Catastrophe, and Change," a documentary that explores the disproportionate representation of Black children in care system.
