We haven’t known
this winter
in a long time.

Pipes
fuel lines
faces
hearts
frozen solid.

The thermometer drops
pen is put to paper
millions
are left out in the cold.

In case you need a little levity at the start of these dark days, I’m sharing a video my daughter made. A friend said recently that her word for 2025 was Joy, and she wasn’t willing to give that up.

I couldn’t bear to watch or think about the inauguration. I’m not checked out, but I am protecting myself. Today I am thinking of what is most important to me. Beauty, justice, love. I will gird them around me for the trials ahead.

I’m creating another Advent tree w/ a daily ink from the Diamine Inkvent calendar. This year’s inspiration is one of my very favorite stories. I never tire of it. Self-published by Charles Dickens in 1843 - his publishers didn’t believe in it. What good work this book has done in the world!

So grateful for the hearth of the house. There is even a stone heart at the top. I wish I knew who this thoughtful stonemason was.

I adore the early dark and its invitation to draw the beloved close.

Monday morning win. 5th grader Silas just presented me with what he called the “Class Award for hosting my favorite class”. He 3-D printed it himself. Made my week.
