They say lore is cool but have you heard Lore is cool?
The reveal that, unlike its generally sympathetic depiction in popular media, the monster is kind of an evil bastard was legit shocking

Two Victorian doctors really see a young woman thriving and living her best life as an immortal creature of the night and decide the only rational solution is cutting her head off and stuffing her mouth with garlic

A book which asks the question what is worse, living in a fucked up house or living in a neighborhood full of well off white people?
I really adore haunted house fiction that uses flashbacks to examine how adults are haunted by childhood trauma. A really heavy but fantastic read.

Accurate depiction of the sad, pathetic, intensely horny experience of repressing yourself.
Bonus points for the horny fever dream scenes being really hot. You actually don't need to be haunted by a cursed film reel to get those, it just comes with the 15 years of repression.

Being in constant danger of dying on the job you need for the hazard pay while pining for your hot lesbian boss is a pretty great premise and I was delighted to run into it again so soon after reading The Space Between Worlds

I liked the start of this, it's always nice to get established couples as opposed to yet another story about getting together, but it quickly gets real meandering. I also don't find "let's become Small Local Business Lesbians" to exactly be the height of romance lol

I already really dug book 1 for being full of lesbian yearning so I was surprised how much book 2 blew past my already high expectations, a very angry book about colonialism and an extremely good read. One of the best series I've picked up, can't wait for the next one.

Literary lesbianism with a dash of spooky and a really fucked up house is, as previously established, basically the best thing on earth. Quickly became a really big fan of how Helen Oyeyemi writes, I am such a slut for good prose.

My favorite flavor of spooky story is people being trapped in (or exploring) a creepy place with some sort of otherworldly supernatural horror inside of it.
Also this book is the first in ages to give me a nightmare, the night I finished it even, which is such a delightful thing

When a young queen or princess gets the hots for a buff lady knight remains the only compelling argument in favor of monarchy

Tragic yuri is so powerful, I devoured this book.
Also it's funny to read this so soon after Headshot, where that novel had a lot to say about women's boxing this one has its daggers pointed at how much being a competitive swimmer can suck. The world is not kind to women athletes.

I love how Torrey Peters writes about gender from so many different rarely talked about angles. She can also flip a scene from hot to funny to horrifying on a dime which makes them a joy to read even as they dig into painfully relatable feelings

Big fan of how reliably boxing stories dig into the absolute horrors of boxing. Boxergirl Rachel Doricko's "weird hat philosophy" in which she lives her life by psyching people out with her weird hat (or just general weird hat energy when the hat is not on hand) is etched into my brain

A story featuring funky body horror and not one but two buff ladies as major characters might be the most laser targeted to my interests manga ever made. I also just adore how grimy Q Hayashida's art style gets

Delightful collection of fantasy stories that made me curse the ~12 week library wait time on starting up her Scholomance series

Body horror by a trans author just hits different, no wonder this story has given so many transfems brainworms (affectionate) lol
