Citizen at large. On my better days a seeker of truth, justice, goodness, decency, beauty, connection with nature, and gratefulness. Hubris, greed, consumerism, and predatory capitalism are among the greatest evils of our time.

The second richest man on earth is about to be a major owner of TikTok.

The third richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The fourth richest man owns The Washington Post.

The system is designed for these kinds of outcomes. It's wired into our legal and corporate DNA. All wealth is derived from various forms of exploitation.
Kroger will lay off ~1,000 employees.

In December, it announced $7.5B in stock buybacks – which juice stock prices, enriching shareholders and boosting CEO pay.

Just so happens that Kroger's last CEO was paid 457x its typical employee in 2024.

Textbook corporate greed.

The clearest picture of corporate greed in this country is CEO-to-worker pay ratios.

At the 100 lowest-paying major US companies, CEO pay averaged $17.2M in 2024.

Median worker pay at these companies was just $35,570.

That’s a ratio of 632 to 1.

How can anyone defend this?

Here we are. The Trump Regime is opening defying a Court order. Could it be that Trump is afraid of what Abrego Garcia might have to say to the American people? Is Garcia's life (as they see it) a small price to pay for the coverup? Will we ever know?

Nayib Bukele said Monday that he has no plans to return a Maryland man mistakenly deported to a prison in El Salvador, telling reporters, “of course I’m not going to do it.”

The American Century is officially dead.

This is humiliating. I am ashamed of the America I once thought I knew. I am ashamed of what some of my fellow citizens have chosen to become.

Think of it as a particularly cruel and despicable form of fiscal federalism controlled by only one person. Perfect. Right up Donald's alley.
January 25, 2025 at 3:01 PM
So...Donald wants to defund and dissolve FEMA so that all federal disaster relief is discretionary and dependent upon his whims. He likes you, you've been sufficiently subservient, and the money flows. He doesn't like you, you've refused to sell your soul, and you're on your own.

Can we please take similar action against a certain president-elect who is attempting to exert control over public policy before his inauguration?

Thank you.

The combined net worth of America's twelve wealthiest people passed $2 trillion last year.

12 people. $2 trillion.

Meanwhile, U.S. homelessness increased 18% in 2024.

Our problem isn’t an issue of resources.

Our problem is ever-expanding wealth inequality.

It's hard to imagine this passing constitutional muster, but the audacity of such a proposal is nothing short of breathtaking. Our beloved republic is heading into stormy seas.
