Ex-NASA Unix algorithms buff. Miniaturist by inclination, I admire the work of Edward Gorey. San Francisco born & still there. Undefined by my 31-year-old twins. Likes: Pynchon, Borges, O'Keeffe, Lehrer, Incredible String Band, Paul Robeson, Remedios Varo.

Re: "Sewer socialism"

Make it so!
Mamdani is persuading center-left doubters by making clear his goal is to deliver services to New Yorkers under stress, not to build some left-wing utopia. Welcome to the old American tradition of Sewer Socialism.

The Isle of Jura, which I've visited from afar, is also known for its single-malt whisky distillery.

Testing the repost of a reply -- this is late kudos to Derek Guy for participating in a monster charity-induced menswear fashion thread, together with personalized Q/A advice I will take to heart. Well worth the $50 donation to the Wabash shelter!
OK I'll bite. I have a bright yellow jacket designed by Richard Tyler previously owned by San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown. He donated such things incl. Brioni suits to charity, bought many moons ago. As shown at my alter ego "loquitur" pic at X, as part of a Holloween costume--where can it be worn?

Actual thought about exempting tariffs on things with *no domestic* inputs, like seasonal fruits/veggies/flowers grown in Southern Hemisphere. This adds 2 concerns about other intl. supply chains for pharma, electronix, etc. Can't wave a magic wand to instantiate a supply chain within given borders.

Here's a piece respecting a bygone era which is about more than just the 60s Haight-Ashbury fashion scene (the likes of which a Derek Guy might appreciate), but also drops references to others around at the time, from Janis Joplin to Herb Caen to Owsley Stanley:
