Why is Cannes the only film festival where the headlines report the exact length of the standing ovation?

Also why the heck does anyone care about the exact length of a standing ovation???

I just got over COVID and it was genuinely one of the worst experiences of my life, and I'm vaccinated.

RFK trying to prevent access to vaccines and boosters is the most evil, vile thing I can imagine right now.
The COVID vaccines have been taken by billions of people, saved millions of lives, and are some of the most rigorously tested medical products in history.

Someone who has zero experience in vaccine development should not be influencing the approval process. This will kill people.

Polished off Noah Baumbach's filmography.

Then rewatched Frances Ha for comfort after fucking getting laid off.

These days, if you aren't watching a show the minute it airs, you're being spoiled, and I can't stand it.

The Last of Us spoilers on social media are insane...

Succession was ruined for me by the LA TIMES, MINUTES after the episode ended.

I watched The Accused (1988) last night but the version I watched (free with ads on YouTube) was 93 minutes long, 18 minutes shorter than the listed runtime of 111 minutes.

Can't find any references to there being different cuts of the movie, so what did I watch and why is it on YouTube?

Having a very specific depressive episode where all I can do is lie in bed watching independent 90's comedies, mostly starring Parker Posey

Wish I saw what other people see in Janet Planet and House of Yes, but can we send Julianne Nicholson and Tori Spelling to The White Lotus next?

Watched The House of Yes and while "YES Parker Posey!" I'm just saying "YES TORI SPELLING!!!"

Can we send her to The White Lotus next?

I know not all Eat The Rich satire can operate at the level of The White Lotus or Parasite, but it feels like it's getting particularly lazy lately.

My most anticipated film of 2025!
The official poster for Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck ✨

The film will be released in theaters this June.

One of the many reasons The White Lotus works so well while a lot of "Eat the Rich" satires don't is the fact that Mike White clearly loves all of the characters; even if they voted for Trump, even if they're casually racist, even if they might murder their families. Nobody exists only to be mocked

Everyone seems sold on the idea that JD Vance, a walking skinsuit of ambition, would consent to run as a puppet in 2028 and then, if he won, let 82-year-old Trump continue to call the shots. Worry less about Vance being a figurehead and more about him being president. (Even better: worry about NOW.)

Am I the only one who can't reconcile White Lotus Christian Friedel, anxious hotel manager, with Zone of Interest Christian Friedel, real Nazi commandant trying to improve gas chambers, and with singer/pianist Christian Friedel of art pop band Woods of Birnam?

Is there a man with more range?

I'm a big fan of the way The White Lotus's credits constantly evolve to add more and more of the "surprise" cast members. I love that we don't know the full cast of characters until we actually experience them in the show.

As much as I like Adolescence, I think episode 3 stands so heads and shoulders above the others that I'm not sure how much it works for me as an overall package.

Like maybe this story could have been delivered more effectively as a traditionally shot film with a 45 minute long take in the middle.
