Meanwhile my former museum job would ask us to bring our turkey carcasses in so the dermestid colony had something to feed on in between cleaning specimens

I mentioned to my dad that it had taken me longer than usual to get through some recent issues of the New Yorker and he said, “Yeah, sometimes you have to read those cartoons a few times before you get ‘em.” Anyway, I did actually learn a lot from Hitchens’ piece on Laura Loomer in the 11/17 issue.

Continuing to catch up, in the 11/10 New Yorker, Lauren Groff’s short story, “Mother of Men” was very good & everything in “Talk of the Town” was, too.

Catching up… in the 11/3 New Yorker I appreciated Stephen Witt on the inner-workings of data centers and Patricia Lockwood’s poem, “Sorry for Existing.”
Inside the Data Centers That Train A.I. and Drain the Electrical Grid
A data center, which can use as much electricity as Philadelphia, is the new American factory, creating the future and propping up the economy. How long can this last?
