This is how I feel when someone yells “hoax” for stuff like this. I thought the point of forgeries was to make them look indiscernible from the original. You don’t improvise. You don’t set out to recreate The Last Supper and then turn in a ditty on a ukulele.

I feel if you really wanted to frame him, you’d crib off an old Tweet or Truth and ensure the frame-job looked genuine. You wouldn’t write something as fucking weird as “Enigmas never age” and shit. Sure, bringing up how weird it is doesn’t prove anything, but it at least puts it in perspective.

“What’s this bite radius crap?”

Translated:

“If I don’t understand it, then it’s nothing I need to worry about.”

Jaws has become less and less a shark movie to me over the years and more about human nature’s desire for normalcy over making the necessary sacrifice.

So of course they don’t go with Quint, who’s asking for a lot of money, and to be fair, seems kind of insane. But when one of the cheaper teams comes back with a shark, OF COURSE they think that’s the maneater, because they don’t know. And when Hooper is skeptical, of course they don’t listen.

Probably the most relatable thing comes right after the second death, a child, when the town finally does decide they need to hunt this shark down. They don’t have any real knowledge on sharks or how to catch sharks, so they go the cheap route with a bunch of jabronis.

The local businesses and the mayor gamble, thinking the cost of losing one summer outweighs the entire future. It’s climate change, but it can also relate to infrastructure and other costs that people find hard to bear in the moment, only to see the price worsen the more they let it go unchecked.

Speaking of which, another musical biopic, or docudrama, I enjoyed recently was Kneecap. Another breath of fresh air, combining killer hip-hop with a movement about Irish language rights I didn’t know was a thing. A great outing from Rich Peppiatt, which at times felt like an Irish Trainspotting.
