In italy you will just give them a bottle of wine later.. or nothing XD no one cares.. if they cannot help you they will tell you - no. If they agreed - all fine, it is not your problem or worries anymore. :)

You need to come spend some time in Italy :)
The whole country is basicaly functioning on the word of mouth principles. Everything is done through networking. I saw a lot of people coming here first being shy and then learning that this is local currency and go with that :) Easy peasy :)
