Sir Peter Bazalgette plants a mulberry tree in Chelsea Embankment Gardens to mark 151 years since his great great grandfather Joseph created the Embankment and its revolutionary sewage outfall and flood protection. Chelsea has a 450 year mulberry tree heritage.

Strange fruit of the Paper Mulberry - not a mulberry species in fact but Broussonetia papyrifera (in the same family though . In Kew Gardens today. Each of the orange lobes is in fact a fruit (drupe). So it’s a multiple fruit - like the mulberry.Tastes very much like jam.

White mulberry tree. St James’s Park. Parakeets and squirrels have scoffed most of the fruit - which was ripe a couple of weeks ago. My St James walk tomorrow will come here. See Morus Londinium’s website under events.

Just tasted a luscious black mulberry from Oxford’s oldest tree in Balliol College (1611 or thereabouts). Tree being treated a bit rudely though as a dumping area. Hopefully just today.

Morus Londinium has heard that the lovely black mulberry tree in Myatts Fields has split. With expert care the tree could continue to grow or regenerate, if it can be made safe. Thanks Diane Rutland for the photos.
