There was an element of this I think. But because I hated Prophet Song so much I was kinder to it than I might have been otherwise.

Of the last three Booker Prize Winners only Orbital wasn't a terrible book. Prophet Song, which I know has fans, was bloody awful. (Sorry if you liked it.) And Flesh didn't deserve to win. For some the reasons outlined above.
