I talk a bit about politics, but mostly this is going to be books, Doctor Who, and a little smattering of Brentford FC. My YouTube Channels:

I know it is sad but I like it when my notes look nice. They don’t always look like this btw. lol.

As I'm unlikely to finish anything else tonight here's what I read in October. It's been a fun reading month. November is...Remembrance Reads. And, apart from the final book of 'A Dance to the Music of Time' by Anthony Powell everything is World War One themed.

Reading this tonight. Had to use my O-Level French for a few bits and pieces. This is the 1986 David McDuff translation and the writing is vivid. This isn’t your pacifist Tolstoy of later years. Indeed it reminded me of a World War One memoir.

Continuing my read of this today. Rail and the Normandy landings.

Thought for the day.

In fact it was something like this.

There's Terry Pratchett quote for everything

One of those bits of the Bible that all those Christians seem to ignore in the name of bigotry. There's a lot of other bits too. But then I think the modern GOP and MAGA Christianity would crucify Jesus again if he turned up.

I’ve been sorting my room out and I found my copy of this. Signed by a veritable gallery of #DoctorWho writers and actors. Can’t remember which event I got most of these signatures at.

In my AD&D folder were all of these Patricia C Wrede’s Worldbuilder questions, which I would imagine would be really useful if you’re writing a fantasy novel. These all date from 1999 so I’ve no idea if they’re still up.

Found my planning for a very old AD&D campaign I was going to run. Unlikely to run it now as I’m so out of touch with current D&D. Might do something with it though

Finished reading this tonight. Great critical writing and a reminder of the importance of subsiding the arts properly. Plus it is mad to think some random posh bloke had censorship control over the British theatre until 1968!

Finished reading this tonight. It is mostly a collection of amazing photos by Angus McBean of Shakespeare productions from the 1930s to the 1960s. It's a great 'god, I wish I'd seen that production' book: Vanessa Redgrave as Rosalind for example.

I've put these up for sale on eBay. I've no idea if anyone buys cassettes anymore but I can't listen to them and I'm clearing space.

I found this book buried at the back of a cupboard. I bought it in 2008 when I was first starting to get properly into going to the theatre. Think if is going to get a re-read 17 years later.

I have now visited all the IWM sites, although a re-visit to HMS Belfast must be on the cards as I’ve not been there for yonks.

Bring up the PIAT!

I finished Adonis: Selected Poems, translated from Arabic by Khaled Mattawa. The stickers out of the top are whole poems I wanted to mark. Those sticking out of the side are lines/phrases. I’m pretty blown away by it, even though it isn’t always easy to understand.

The books I read in July 2025. Lots of good stuff. My favourite, at a push, I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith. But the Anthony Powell books - part of a twelve book series called 'A Dance to the Music of Time' - are excellent. Like Proust, but funny. Finished my complete Jean Rhys read too.

I'm feeling this quote, especially the 'Soon I'll be out of stock...' bit. I think I copied this from @iammilliam.bsky.social a few years ago.

My money situation is at a very low ebb so if anyone wants to make me a decent offer on these let me know. If you can collect them in London all the better. They're in perfect nick. #BigFinish #DoctorWho I can do more detailed photos if you like.

Post your favourite Doctor Who, wrong answers only.

This might be a tad niche.

Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Star Wars, Star Trek, LotR, Marvel - There's no gif for my first choice so a picture will have to do:

I can't show you the whole spreadsheet but blue is out of print and with one exception - Verner Vinge's 'Children of the Sky' these are the only books on the list that aren't reasonably easy to pick up. It's maddening.

I was today years old when I noticed this.
