I love when supporters of the party with "democratic" in the name tell people to stfu when they voice their opinion on the actions of the party. Can't make this stuff up

This isn't about Harwinder alone, it's the BCNDP's position. Stop pretending like the party in power doesn't have power to act

Is this a joke? BC has jurisdiction over the imports of the provincial crown corp. She even notes in the email how that they did exactly that w US imports on a dime

I shared Harwinder's feckless response because Ag & Food minister Popham has ignored so far. Harwinder is the Ag Sec so quite relevant

If the BC NDP are good at one thing, it's reminding you of why you should never vote for them. Complete dogshit party

So to the workers of @unifor.org Local 88: stay strong!

You've got your union behind you.

You've got a whole country behind you.

If they come for your machines....Fire the Boss!

As they say in Argentina:

Occupy. Resist. Produce.

For me personally, this story stirs deep emotion.

My first film, The Take (2004) was the story of workers in Argentina who were abandoned by their bosses, and took their factories back.

They took them over and ran them as worker cooperatives.

Not to mention the fact that the Government of Canada should have been this plant's biggest customer.

You want a nation-building project?

Convert the country's delivery fleet to electric, roll out the infrastructure, create union jobs and do it with Canadian steel.

First of all, the government of Canada should never have let this happen.

The US needs to sell cars in Canada - we're their biggest foreign market! $23 billion USD in sales here last year.

We need the auto pact back: you want to sell a vehicle here? Build a vehicle here.

Sure, of course supply is part of the equation, but pretending that's it, that you can just increase supply and prices go down, it's ludicrous

As I tried to show Hank, the bigger factor is an increasing proportion of investors in the market using housing for profit instead of, you know, to live in
January 15, 2025 at 9:09 AM
As I said, it can vary widely based on jobs available, amenities, culture, social supports, etc.

That's to say nothing of rent deregulation. Landlords flock to jurisdictions lacking rent and vacancy controls where they know that can maximize their exploitation for profit
January 15, 2025 at 8:59 AM
I've seen enough of your videos to know you know that even those people believe we do need more housing, they just want it not in "their backyard"

My point stands that the fundamental driver of housing costs is commodification, not simply supply/demand, a point nobody in the thread has disproven
January 15, 2025 at 8:52 AM
On a fundamental level, no. They may expect different rates of profit in different markets, but their core incentive of maximizing profit by exploiting this basic human need remains unchanged
January 15, 2025 at 8:44 AM
It's not an argument against building housing. It's an argument against the vapid supply-side misconception that more housing will bring down prices

That's simply not the case when investors are hoarding a huge chunk of new builds AND existing housing at an accelerating pace
January 15, 2025 at 8:39 AM
No one "needs" to rent out their home, unless the financialization of a human right has made owning their house unaffordable, proving my point

I don't know a single person who doesn't agree that everyone gets one home before anyone gets two. So the public decides, instead of letting the rich decide
January 15, 2025 at 8:37 AM
Obviously both can vary widely based on jobs available, amenities, culture, social supports, etc.

There's also a well-studied direct relationship between rent increases and homelessness, so the more investors treat housing as a profit venture, the higher the homeless rate is
January 15, 2025 at 8:29 AM
Is this a joke? The only reason people think it's worth it to buy a house is because it's scarce?

Not...you know...having a roof over your head??
January 15, 2025 at 8:23 AM
Listen, you can live in your make-believe world, but you don't need to be a piece of shit to me because you disagree

You literally know nothing about me and yet you're wetting your pants and saying I don't know anything. Grow up
January 15, 2025 at 1:34 AM
I'm not saying the public consultation process isn't a problem, see the great About Here video on this

But NIMBYs blocking lone affordable developments doesn't change the fundamental reason housing is unaffordable: the commodification and financialization of housing as a whole
