#EDLT6616 "[F]rom a place of intense concern for how AI might warp our discipline (not to mention our world more generally), and diminish the intellectual development of us and our students alike, our position is critical rather than ignorant." This is exactly where I stand as it pertains to AI.
Mack Penner and Edward Dunsworth continue the conversation on the use of AI in education and history. Their post was written in response to a previous one by Mark Humphries.

EdTech has it's place in the classroom (and, perhaps, I can even be convinced AI may have a place) but nothing can or will replace human interaction in the education process. #EDLT6616
I know as an education scholar I WOULD say this, but:

This is THE way. There is no other way than this. Anything less and anything other is cheating ourselves out of democratic-republican habits we need to govern ourselves and out of the most basic social goods we can imagine.
Or here's a thought--maybe we could hire more actual human teachers, pay them better, make class sizes smaller, build in more paid prep time, and generally just invest in education instead of investing in AI.

This is very concerning to me. Call me an alarmist, but I do not trust AI to do very much of anything for me. #EDLT6616
Worth a watch:

Head of Signal, Meredith Whittaker, on so-called "agentic AI" and the difference between how it's described in the marketing and what access and control it would actually require to work as advertised.

#EDLT6616 How can we balance tech and traditional learning? Especially as we consider the AI wave in the digital age, educators have to be on the forefront of digital and AI literacy and how to balance it in the classroom.

MIT released a study (one that has not yet been peer reviewed) but the results so far are shocking about AI. I think AI can have it's place but overuse of AI may decrease critical thinking skills especially in developing brains. #EDLT6616

The $50 million allocated for private school vouchers, while a drop in the bucket in the looming budget crisis, is still a tax break that should not have happened.

I have done quite a bit of reading on the harm school vouchers cause and I am excited to be speaking at town halls with Save Our Schools Idaho and Idaho Education Association in the coming weeks on this very issue. Vouchers cause only harm to public ed and do not benefit students. #edlt6616
The national school voucher proposal in the Senate GOP reconciliation plan would threaten students’ access to quality public schools, give tax breaks to the wealthy, & override states that have rejected these harmful policies. Lawmakers who care about our kids’ futures should reject it.
