I’m wearing full-legged pants for the first time in months today. They feel like a prison.

I think this point might land better when the critic in question hasn’t just given two (arguably more) Broadway shows widely seen as not just sub-par but pretty bad his “Critic’s Pick” designation. And unsurprisingly, I’ve also heard reports of said designations being sold/bartered for. 👀
Sportswriters and political journalists are rightly lauded for their knowledge and expertise. So how come knowledge in theatre critics is regarded as elitist/suspect? As the New York Times "reassigns" its lead critic, I wonder: have we really had enough of experts? www.thestage.co.uk/opinion/the-...
New York Times' critics' 'reassignment' signals worrying trend

If you’re not excited for Floyd Collins’ long-awaited Broadway premiere, you should be. It’s a fascinating, devastating piece. @lctheater.bsky.social

Kids today don’t know there was a time where you could have a public parking dispute and it wouldn’t be published online from 8 different angles within the hour. The only people who knew were the ones who were there! A simpler time.

Can confirm this is a must read. Great material for when hiding from family in your room.

Still wild to me that people—particularly crisis PR firms!!!—still don’t realize that sending texts is putting things in writing. #AmateurHour

(We’ve known the second Wicked was subtitled For Good since 2023. Why do people think this is news.)

So tired of the commentary that comes with every closing notice. Individual shows failing doesn't indicate Bway is not hospitable to any genre. It means ONE show didn't work.

And to those bemoaning the dreaded loss of original musicals, this most recent one IS A JUKEBOX MUSICAL. Make it make sense.

This continues to be one of the most insane and upsetting things that not enough people are talking about. I cannot believe that no one has stepped in to ensure the artists get their money back this year.

I heard tell today of an American homosexual at a friend’s Thanksgiving dinner who had not heard of the Wicked movie until yesterday. Thought the table’s discourse about it was in reference to a local production. I can’t even… like I’m as IMPRESSED as I am BEWILDERED at this achievement.

If you’ve ever wondered why events like the Macy’s parade and the Super Bowl tend to go with pre-recorded vocals over live, the live singing at this year’s parade has unfortunately been a great showcase of that 😬😬😬

Has any actual human EVER actually done a special handshake routine with a close friend? And and—has any playwright or screenwriter ever found ANY other way to quickly establish that two characters have history together? Feel like that discovery might be bigger than dark matter.

Netflix’s next live event: The Rock v. Patti LuPone. You’re gonna think that’s not a fair match, but you’re gonna be wrong.
Dwayne Johnson says people should feel free to sing in theaters when they watch a musical:

“Sing! You’ve paid your hard earned money for a ticket, and you've gone into a musical, and you’re into it. Sing!”

Maybe it's because I'm a big fan of live stage musicals, but I couldn't be happier that live singing seems to have become the new norm for movie musicals—The alternative always seemed so backwards to me.

More on how live sound mixer Simon Hayes made it happen on Wicked, for Playbill:

Another important reminder that no social media—nay, any free website or app—is created for its users’ benefit. Any benefit you derive is a gimme. They are not public highways. It shocks me how often people are surprised when they re-learn this.

Wondering what it’s like seeing Oh, Mary! without Cole Escola? Spoiler alert: If Hannah Solow is stepping in, it’s still fucking hilarious. Loved getting to spotlight this absolute star.
