[grumbling about systemverilog again, sorry]

why do people have such _bizarre_ SV coding styles. this is the design document for a suggested robust and beginner-friendly set of lints, which includes (_checks notes_) forbidding `begin`/`end`.

I'm writing a RISC-V CPU and I don't even like RV that much...

Still, I set myself a goal, and I'm going to try to achieve it.

["RAM price hikes wouldn't matter if we wrote more efficient software"]

...is a phrase that has _all_ of the bad connotations for me.

I do not think developers set out to write inefficient software. People can point to, like, JS frameworks as bloated, and, perhaps, but the modern web has […]

having to explain to poor Rust programmers that even though SystemVerilog has had tagged unions for twenty years, tooling generally doesn't support it, even though there are a variety of elegant use cases for it.

[lofty's cpu]

I am surprised how much progress I've made by refactoring NERV. it's, still quite a bit away from what I want, but I think it's worth it to have a working CPU at every stage of refactor. it does require a lot of thought about other things though, and I need some fellow RISCVer to […]

I have spent the better part of a week un-naïving a copy of the Naïve Educational RISC-V.

I do kinda wonder how it would perform on coremark or such.

I sure do love that SystemVerilog classes are not synthesisable, even though it'd be wonderful to use their encapsulation for things.

explaining to a poor software engineer that even though "push-down list" and "stack" are interchangeable terms, and even though "automaton" and "machine" are interchangeable terms, a "push-down automaton" and "stack machine" are very different.
