I'm a deaf thirtysomething who's just this side of weird. I dump about whatever here and I'm not sorry.
Pretty smart to use up the leftover yolks that way!

The biggest difference I'm seeing between Helen and Laura Bridgman is the stimulation in their environment. Helen was a very mischievous child and interacted with everyone around her while Laura didn't seem to have as many opportunities.

But Helen is also surrounded by hearing people and seems to interact with either blind students or other deafblind students. So it figures she would've wanted to learn to speak (which she never did that well with).

She complains that reading deaf people's signs is too slow for her and that she prefers either the manual alphabet or reading Braille. I thought it was interesting that some of her classes tried to take the load off of Annie as well for interpreting.

Modern balance bikes for kids look almost like the earliest version of bicycles/dandy horses.

Remembered I still had fig preserves, so I put some of that, shredded apple walnut cheese and chopped cranberry Brie salami in some grits. Charcuterie grits were delicious :D

Trader Joe's is apparently out of red curry sauce because of this recipe, so I had to improvise by getting a can of curry paste instead. But I realized I could easily sub out the red with a can of green curry paste or something less spicy.

After a few trials, I ended up pairing cranberry Brie salami with the apple walnut, Gouda with the promontory and the garlic asiago with the hatch chile.

Barely Buzzed was the worst cheese there, tasted too much like a coffee rub (it has a rub with espresso and lavender... Not feeling it).

Also, I wish it had closed with the main characters finally meeting. I could definitely see them together, catching up on their lives and seeing the parallels, but we didn't even get to that first conversation between them in a long time.

...then what native characters there were, they disappeared after like halfway through. And the trans character! The symbolism of her chosen name and all is awesome but to kill her off? C'mon.
