Saw Ghost for the first time last night, and it was AMAZING, so I say this with great love for both, they're kinda the ABBA of goth metal.

When I die, if you listen closely, you'll hear a faint squeak from inside the casket, "That's not what POV means..."

I have a bad habit of reading comment sections, and what I see these days, especially in Substack, is a lot of angry yelling and flailing.

Instead of ineffectual venting, let’s put that fire to work in the forge.

“OMG! WTF?! Holy Sh...!!!” is Not a Plan
Shock and outrage are justified—and in a twisted way can feel good. But we must move past them to stop Trump and Musk.

Re-reading Gormenghast, and honestly, Trump, Musk, Zuck, and Putin are Peake villain names.

The four weeks between Spotify Wrap Day and New Year's Day is liminal song space. Anything you listen to doesn't count for either 2024 or 2025, so get at it.

Full confession, I may have cursed 2024 by rereading Blood Meridian last Christmas...

Today would have been Short's 100th birthday.

Happy birthday, Dad--and niece Charlotte who shares his birthday and turns 11 today!

So thankful for everything he taught us, all the Short-isms we still say, and all the stories we still tell and laugh about.

Better have a little bourbon tonight.

Over several decades and networks, there remains no more entertaining sports-pop culture nexus than listening to a pained Al Michaels awkwardly read programming promos for SFF shows.

These things you keep
You'd better throw them away
You wanna turn your back
On your soulless days
Once you were tethered
And now you are free
Once you were tethered
Well now you are free
That was the river
This is the sea!
