Thanks Steve - yeah, inconclusive is the best I’ll get on this. It did look good in the field - but not seeing the wing/back end of it and it being not quite grey/dark enough consigns it to the ‘nearly’ bin. Thanks for your comment. 👍

No sign of the Swift yet this am at St Ives. Weather not great. But Black Redstart, Purple Sandpiper, 2 Chough and an Island tick, Great White Egret into the bay heading towards Hayle Est. #cornwallbirding

We get Hawfinch ‘down the road’ at Effingham but they’re uncommon over Pewley. We had one or 2 last year. Don’t think we’ve had one this year. I agree that Merlin is pretty good but it also throws curve balls sometimes… I had a Mangrove Cuckoo over a while back 🤔🤣
