I'm working on a short 3-part zombie story. I'll be posting snippets and promo art here while I work on my website. I hope to self-host my writing and other content. It's been great to connect with other writers and horror nerds on here!

This one goes out to all those who contributed tonight. Please go forth and promo!

Well, my WIP characters are navigating a zombie apocalypse. A granola bar could provide much needed calories. Many granola bars could cause a serious faction conflict... #HorrorWritersChat
I LOVE these days being subverted. You're all in sweatpant heaven. What about your WIP characters? your main characters? And what would they say?

I'm Luke! I have a background in film both creatively and academically. As you probably know, most films begin on the page. As time has gone on, the visual aspect of my work has become secondary - I now consider myself as much of a writer as a filmmaker.

Q1.
For me this is the most important. Who are we, really?
Let's spill the beans. Or the squirrels. Or even the granola.
We're all listening.

I haven't shared much about my "zombie" novel I've been working on & off on, but I think my exposition describing them & their animal-like behavior (& the fact I write them like sexual predators cause they're a metaphor for that trauma) makes the horror stand out.

Q3 #HorrorWritersChat

How does your writing style seek to instill fear, disgust, or otherwise unsettle your readers?

WIP: My character is a waitress who is antagonized by androids who look a lot like humans... except one is covered in hands, one has two abyss for eyes, one has a too-wide smile, & one is a talking baby. They have no thoughts of their own, they are Empty Monsters.

Horror is known for having both natural and supernatural antagonists, like the landscape or a ghostly presence.

Q4 #HorrorWritersChat

In your current WIP or latest published horror work, who or what antagonises your protagonist?

The outro with promo opportunity will be posted in 10 mins.

#HorrorWritersChat in my upcoming Gothic YA novel, RAVENFIELD HALL, it's a confluence: Landscape is beautiful but deadly, people in the isolated coastal setting may or may not be ghosts, all are potential threats to my heroine who also can't trust her senses. A case where *nothing* feels truly safe.

I have lots of books out there, but today I'm sharing my most well-known, THE BLOOD GOSPEL co-authored with James Rollins. It's got vampires who survive on sacrificial wine, cursed books, and the real reason Lazarus rose...

Perhaps due to my autism, I write fiction like a documentary.

You learn about the bleak hellscape of post-apocalyptic New Hilltown through fragments, bloodied notes and other artefacts. You only know what the characters know! #HorrorWritersChat

My protagonists are antagonised by the prospect of being alone. The zombies are secondary. Being alone in the world is far more frightening than flesh-eating monsters...

My zombie story - Welcome to New Hilltown - violates our perceived reality. Modern civilization itself has to come an end. Urban spaces have become hazardous; the paradox of a city becoming an inhospitable environment...

“Horror comes from a violation of what characters perceive to be reality.” - Writing in the Dark by Tim Waggoner

Example: a haunted house violates the assumption that we are alone in our homes.

Q2 #HorrorWritersChat
Which perceived realities do you utilise in your horror writing?
