Angry like much of the timeline, but did find some joy in today's very Celebrity Jeopardy-like category from @theathletic.bsky.social's connections: "Things With Holes"

Thanks to @vftlpodcast.bsky.social for floating the greater than non-real possibility that a Europa League champions* Spurs could find themselves in the Championship AND the Champions League** next season

Severance 202 has me a wee bit concerned the 39 min of innies being in outie world is the show’s MCU Snap-type event and all roads always lead there 🫤. Hope I’m wrong

Yes, it came out early in 2024 and it’s a sci-fi sequel, but still baffled by how little interest awards season has had for Dune 2, or Denis Villeneuve. Not saying it has more deserving nominees in any acting categories, or that Villeneuve should be nominated over one of the five selected directors

I think about this idea a lot when it comes to many people's feelings about "inner cities." You'll hear someone say something that's straight out of a 70s or 80s crime drama, or a description of Gotham
Wrote a little bit about the Sicario movies and questioning if they were influencing how we thought about the border back in 2018 when the second one came out. It would seem. The answer is. Yes.

Donald Trump paints the border as a lawless hellhole. But so does American pop culture.
Watching Sicario 2 in a time of border crisis.

Two things can be true at once: 1) you can be a good broadcaster even if you show you care when the team you root for wins, and 2) crying because your team “overcame” a loss to Michigan is really really funny

The TV ads cinematic universe is our last piece of monoculture
I need to know if the Capital One guy is a resident of Fansville or if the location of his permanent branch has a Metropolis-Gotham thing going on with the Dr. Pepper folk

I've always wanted to publish guest columns on my Substack. Today is my first. "The coarsening of society at the North Pole must stop," writes one of Santa's elves in a compelling appeal to return to decorum holapapi.substack.com/p/opinion-th...

Finally caught the Kraven the Hunter trailer—before Anora, no less—and I had no idea quartering someone was allowed in trailers. Also, the Johnny Cash soundtrack is hilarious

The funniest aspect of playoff reaction is people insisting the committee is telling teams this or that matters as if next year those teams will actively change based on those messages. This is not Great British Bake Off.
