FWIW, I have talked to non-tech folks using AI tools who *are* aware of the IP and artist issues. But it's handy / fun / enriching to them - and the negatives rank similarly to eating meat, driving a car, buying from amazon, flying on a plane, etc. It all feels bad but also worth it in the calculus

I mean, sure, I've in tech for much of my life too - going on 40 years since the first time I got paid for it. Of course folks don't pay attention to OS, search engines, or phone specs. Just like there's a dozen other fields in your life where the specifics are a blur. You still weigh options though

Like, people don't want what the AI boosters want, not exactly. But they don't want what I want - or what I think they *should* want. People want and care about entirely different things, much to my frequent surprise and dismay. And it's tough getting a handle on it sometimes.

This is the most frustrating thing being in this soup, these days. Turns out folks don't care nearly as much about privacy or the web or all the various things nerds like me think they should. Easy to point at the gap and say "no it's the children who are wrong" instead of trying to figure it out

Frankly, that's just as demeaning and solipsistic an attitude toward folks in general as the rich assholes have. Do you really think people in the world using this stuff don't have free will and motivations and judgements of their own, whereby they've decided that this stuff is appealing?

And I think that's wishful thinking. Hundreds of *millions* of people are using AI. And the vasty majority have NO IDEA how dangerous or harmful these platforms can be. It would be great if there were tools that they could use that might help reduce their risks. www.anildash.com/2025/11/14/w...

I thought it was just a wave of internet randomness. Not sure the context improves things 😅

Dang, that Fix8:Sed8 track hit a button in my brain and now I'm fixated on that album today!

Excuse me, I think you'll find you're not talking about a camera bump but an elegant "camera plateau"

I want to make a joke about white-on-white gang violence, to honor the man's last words. But I'll probably get fired

What, and yours isn't?

Right?! I mention this to folks and they have no idea what I'm talking about. (and this is one of those times when I consider whether I'm too online)

Oh, oof, well. RIP Silksong, then 😞

I know many folks think this is a travesty, but: There are a bunch of mods & cheats out for Silksong that when used in moderation can make it much more of a delight. I'm okay with hacking away some of the bits that waste my time for punishment
