Team USA assembled in DC today! Our eight Consulate Generals bring Germany closer to the U.S. every day. Good to exchange views, ideas and analysis with them - they are our greatest asset to broaden, deepen transatlantic relations everyday.

I was delighted to open the iconic Caspar David Friedrich exhibition at New York’s Met! It puts a great German Romantic painter on the map in the US, and a fascinating period of intellectual explosion in our history. A testament to the exceptional cooperation between our museums – and our countries.

Today marks 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. For Germans, the remembrance of the Holocaust and fight against antisemitism is of unique significance.

Today, we also think of the Israeli hostages still in the hands of Hamas, among them many Germans. They need to be released.
