I am deeply shocked by the terror attack in #Sydney - an act of hatred on the first day of #Hanukkah that is directed against Jewish communities everywhere. My heart goes out to the families of those murdered, the victims and the Jewish community. @aussenminister.diplo.de

The violent arrest of 2023 @NobelPrize peace laureate Narges #Mohammadi and other activists during a funeral in #Iran is deeply disturbing. Standing up for human rights and freedom of expression must never be criminalized. @nargesfnd.bsky.social

The security of Asia and Europe is closely intertwined. Free movement of goods in the Taiwan Strait is important for prosperity in Europe and worldwide. An escalation there would also affect us. Any change to the status quo must be non-violent and consensual. @aussenminister.diplo.de

Putin can only continue his brutal war of aggression against Ukraine because he can rely on support from third parties, including China. We expect China to use its influence on Russia to ensure a lasting peace for Ukraine. @aussenminister.diplo.de

General licenses for rare earths offered by China can be an important first step. We need reliability and predictability – this is in both our interests. At the same time, we 🇩🇪🇪🇺want to further diversify and strengthen our supply chains. @aussenminister.diplo.de

Economic issues were a key matter on the agenda. We need open markets and free trade. Competition must be fair and based on rules. Market distortions and export restrictions are not in our interest and harm our economy. @aussenminister.diplo.de

There are many issues we need – and want – to discuss with China, given the politically and economically challenging times. I am thankful for intensive, open and constructive talks. @aussenminister.diplo.de

Germany stands firmly by the OSCE, as the organisation is under real pressure. It needs reform - and it needs to reduce spending. A well-functioning #OSCE system is a clear gain for stability and crisis prevention across the whole Euro-Atlantic area, @aussenminister.diplo.de stressed today.

Normalization between #Armenia and #Azerbaijan is key to achieving lasting peace in the South Caucasus. On the margins of the OSCE Ministerial Council, @aussenminister.diplo.de and Ararat Mirzoyan discussed how #Germany can help strengthen cooperation in the region.

Dmytro #Shabanov was part of the OSCE mission that monitored the contact line in the Donbas until 2022. Under false pretenses, Russian forces detained him and two of his colleagues. More than three years on, they remain in captivity. We call for the release of all political prisoners.

The OSCE Ministerial also offers an important opportunity to deepen bilateral relations with our partners. On the margins of the conference, @aussenminister.diplo.de held talks with his Uzbek counterpart 🇺🇿 Bakhtiyor Saidov and with his Kazakh counterpart 🇰🇿 Ermek Köşerbaev.

The #OSCE embodies the belief that reconciliation & dialogue are possible - even among those who do not see eye to eye. Yet, Russia’s war of aggression has placed the organisation under profound strain. 🇫🇮 Chairmanship has set important reforms in motion. @aussenminister.diplo.de

50 years ago in Helsinki, we committed to a set of principles, such as territorial integrity & sovereignty - principles, which #Putin violates every day in #Ukraine. His war of aggression is aimed not only at Ukraine but at the very foundations of our security order. @aussenminister.diplo.de
