NOS power brick: www.laptop-adapters.co.uk/thinkpad-x22... (theoretically speaking, you could also get a 20V USB-PD trigger with a 7.5x5.5mm jack if you wanted, so it can charge off USB-C bricks)
New battery: www.duracelldirect.co.uk/laptop-noteb...

like I'm sorry but the combination of "fragile electronics" with "battery cells that are notorious for swelling as a failure mode" is bonkers design. cylindrical cells in a swappable back are physically stronger and no I don't care that it means the laptop is an inch thick.

yes yes I know, the Framework 13 exists. it does have a replacable battery. that is made of pouch cells. which swell. and you have to open the thing up in order to replace it.
this is still less user-friendly than a laptop from FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

I know a couple guys though in the recycling business, who caught me making faces at some of the waste. I get first refusal on the next unclaimed bike that has a Rohloff on it, at least.
So that's nice. But still.

The rules here are if it's stood outside for more than four weeks, it gets taken to the fietsdepot. It then stays there for two weeks (if abandoned on the street) or four weeks (if parked for too long), after that it's sold on or donated.

I think the angriest I've been recently is seeing workers from the Gemeente cutting the lock off a beautiful titanium touring bike with a Rohloff Speedhub in the back. The kind of thing I've been dreaming of owning for years and someone just..... throws it away?
I despair, sometimes.

often these are the same people who will scream blue murder with the parking attendants when they have to pay €1.40 to park their bike for more than the (free) 24-hour period.

the number of extremely expensive electric bikes that people just straight-up abandon in the bike parking and never come back for actually makes me feel a bit sick
you're dropping €5000 a pop on these and just dumping them when you get bored
ok then
