Did I leave this up? No, I did not, I want a job.

Why is this century making us give ourselves our own headlines?

A career in my beleaguered, collapsing, detested industry will always be worth it for the chance to write sentences like this gem from today’s New York Times. ☄️

I’ve been out of survey research for years, but this bugs me. 🧵

One, why not just ask “Do you think America’s political system can still address the nation’s problems?”, then give us the percentages on “yes” and “no”? For the “no” group, you can then ask why…

Today, 4:30pm, Micky’s Joint in NE Baltimore. Joseph Bernstein writes a damn good song, and it’s a rare chance to see him. I’ve been playing with Jer and Joe since we were teenagers—so great to sing harmony with old friends.(We’re all 50, come on out and do the Sally O’Malley for us.)

Hope you’ll visit Micky’s Joint in NE Baltimore on Sun. July 27 at 4:30pm. I’ll play a set with two of my best pals from way way back. Joseph Bernstein will play tunes from his great album 1941.

This Thursday from 5 to 8pm, come on out to the Lauraville Market! A few local authors will read, including yours truly. I'll also play a couple sets with Glad Pulses.

My pals at Osiris Media just wrote to send me to Apple's top music podcast charts. The GenXer in me says "charts schmarts," but this kind of stuff can help me produce more episodes of @rearrangedpodcast.bsky.social. Thanks, listeners! Please leave a review at the main show page if you can :)

Oh Baltimore!

See the creativity Northeast Baltimore has to offer! The HART Festival takes over Hamilton venues (indoors, safe from rain!) up and down Harford Rd. all weekend. My band Glad Pulses closes the festival at Micky's Joint on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. (as does Dr. Sketchy's at Emma's Tea Spot).

Not sure how writing like "often relished more than rejected" gets in the Times. You relish more than you reject, vice versa, or you relish and reject in equal proportion. "Often" does not apply: here it is a classic "weasel word" that journalists use when they lack confidence in their reporting.

My band Glad Pulses plays April 25 at Micky's Joint in Hamilton. First show in seven months--we've been in the studio, and we'll have CDs of our debut album Blue and Bright for sale.

Very smart friend/colleague Adam Marton teaches data journalism at the University of Maryland, and he and his students researched and reported on urban heat islands.

He gives a talk at Cylburn Arboretum today at 5pm. $5, but free with a student ID. Sadly, I can't go, but I know it will be good.
