Beyond the origin of the impulse, I’m concerned that this is another way to suppress democracy. I expect to see an expansion of capital offenses to include lesser offenses committed by undocumented individuals.

Many European celebrated the June solstice as midsummer, with summer beginning in May and running through July. It seems more intuitive to consider the three months with the longest days to be summer.
