Fewer native plants mean fewer insects which means fewer birds, bats, reptiles and amphibians.

If you ever want to shatter the glass, come for a hike with me and I'll point out how much of our "natural" environment is overrun with non-native plants (both invasive and naturalized).
How Non-Native Plants Are Contributing to a Global Insect Decline
The impact of introduced plants on native biodiversity has emerged as a hot-button issue in ecology. But recent research provides new evidence that the displacement of native plant communities is a ke...

Especially since I live in town, I take full advantage of the 70/30 guideline.

That guideline says at least 70% native, at most 30% non-native, and 0% invasive.

I want my garden to look like a garden, even to people who are plant blind.

Rainy days are good for putting your houseplants outside so that they can get the winter dust off their leaves.

This is my shady #hellstrip.
Native plants include Common violets, Golden alexander, Bush honeysuckle, flowering raspberry and Northern aea oats.
I also have Hostas, Lamb's quarters, Dandelion and Bearded iris.
I suffer one invasive plant, Rose of Sharon, but I keep it from going to seed.

I put plants in the ground today. Very satisfying. 10/10, would recommend.

I was able to give a native Coral honeysuckle to a construction worker outside my house who is going to grow it up a railing at her house.

I'm always happy to spread native plants around!

Invasive garlic mustard is in bloom right now. I like to pull it as I walk. You can't just pull it and drop it, though. You have to tear off that flower head and shred it. Bonus points for leaving the rest of the plant where it will dry out, like on top of a patch of multiflora rose.
