These were in a family photo album (husband’s side). I don’t know how common it was to have a camera in the late 1920s but they took plenty of pictures, including of this cat (these cats?). Must have been pretty special! 🐈

Thinking about how not even two months ago I was calling on my senators to NOT vote for such clearly incompetent nominees… fml 🫠
A response from PA Senator Dave McCormick about nominees such as Hegseth: Thank you for contacting me regarding President Trump’s Cabinet nominees. Your feedback is important to me as we work together to shape policies that benefit Pennsylvania and our country. As I have said, President Trump has nominated a team of disrupters to deliver on his promise of change, and historically Presidents of both parties have tended to get their preferred teams in place. At the same time, as a United States Senator, I take seriously my constitutional responsibility to provide advice and consent on the President’s nominees. I have had one-on-one meetings with most of the President’s Cabinet nominees to discuss their qualifications and to raise issues important to Pennsylvanians. I have also questioned the nominees who have appeared before the committees on which I serve and reviewed the hearings of others. President Trump deserves to have a strong team in place to make America safer and more prosperous. Please know that I will keep your views in mind as the Senate works through the confirmation process for each of these nominees. Looks like my rep is doing a town hall after all… by telephone. And the only place I found this information was through a paywalled news site. What amazing transparency 🙄

Accurate and available public health information and data are critical for healthcare providers, public health officials, researchers, and others. These data are used by professionals and consumers in the US and around the world for many purposes, such as making informed decisions for patient care, policies, resource deployment, and research. Historically, the CDC website has been a reputable source for information and data. In January 2025, some of these resources became unavailable. As the CDC site has become available again, it is unclear what has been removed or modified. Due to the rapid changes and lack of transparency, the level of tampering is not yet understood and it is unclear whether errors (purposeful or not) are now present. Our goal is to provide a resource that includes the information and data previously available. We are committed to providing the previously available webpages and data, from before the potential tampering occurred. Our approach is to be as transparent as possible about our process. We plan to gather archival data and then remove CDC logos and branding, using GitHub to host our code to create the site.

In Japan, where there are fewer firearm-related casualties (10 per 100 000 in United States vs 0.06 per 100 000 in Japan), an applicant for a firearm license must pass a background check, including a review of criminal and mental health records. Additionally, the gun owner must reapply and requalify for firearm license every 3 years. Civilians in Japan are not allowed to possess hand guns or semi- and fully automatic assault weapons. In Canada, an applicant for a firearm license has to pass a background check, including review of criminal, mental, addiction, and domestic violence records. The background check also involves third-party character references and interviews with applicant’s spouse, partner, or next of kin before a gun license can be issued. The gun owner must reapply and requalify for firearm license every 5 years, and authorities maintain a record of licensed individuals. Private possession of fully automatic weapons is prohibited in Canada.

I never had a provider order ferritin testing as part of my routine checkup until a couple years ago. My hemoglobin just squeaks in as normal. So yeah, I’m seeing a hemotologist next week since clearly diet and supplements aren’t cutting it and I feel like craaaaaap 🫠
