I think if we can all agree on anything, it's that war makes a great inspiration for a children's play area close to where many boats set off. This is the perfect way to remember horrendous loss of life and long term suffering

Some people will tell you sociologists and criminologists are broadly the same. I submit to you these images, one hangs in my office, the other next door in my colleague @ashkingdon.bsky.social's office. Match the flag to the person in the comments!

One of best things about collabs with people outside academia is they remind you how ridiculous time is inside academia

Just one response over on LinkedIn.

Here we are then, the article I have been whining about for well over a year. Written with @robinskyer.bsky.social, our article explores failure and crip temporalities in UKHE and is published today with the Sociological Review

Teaching 1st years Foucualt today. My seminar slides have this on which remains one of my favourite stupid memes and I anticipate is entirely lost on students. Making myself laugh is 90% of the challenge though, right?

Nothing can convince me there aren't crates of retired Profs stacked up behind this door.

The TONE from my GP surgery. If I don't "comply" (first time they've asked) they will deny me medication which prevents me becoming seriously ill and sudden cessation from which can cause serious illness.

I'm unaware of side effects that would cause me to change height

It's nice when photos you didn't know existed turn up AND you don't hate how you look in them. A happy little snap from Pride in Southampton, from last month with @uosengagement.bsky.social

Is Grandparents day "difficult for some people" or is it a non existent event which they are somehow rinsing coming and going with this email?

I wasn't really on board with the whole "flags on lamposts" thing. But seeing this filthy mattress, as the shining shit on top of a heap of rubbish, with the red cross daubed on it like blood, really turned my head.

An exhausting but elating day at #SoProud #SouthamptonPride collecting a huge cloud of names that make up the web of kin that have made our community who we are. It's so special to talk to people about the people in their lives and imaginations and celebrate all the diverse influences.

Bit of light prep for the #UoSRoadshow on Saturday at #SotonPride. I'll be there with @miloustella.bsky.social running our Oddkin and Bedtime Stories activities.

Grammatically, this hurts.

Nothing can convince me the text on the new Warwick site was written by humans. This sort of bananas word invention and tautology is pure AI

Nope, I still have it? When you (single) click on the clock, does it give you something like this?

Genuinely enjoyed this at the end of a long email outlining some beautifully crafted event plans.

If there's one thing the new forest isn't short on, it's hunting lodges turned into country house hotels

Station staff waiting with ramp, with passenger. Cross Country service arrives and accessible entry is "out of use". Station staff go to next door and confirm route is clear for passenger to walk down carriage. Had she had a wheelchair it would have been impossible to board #everydayableism

In other, ultra local news, my local spar is closing down? Freemantle community hub about to disappear. And it's closed right now? I don't even know what to do with this information

Tremendous papers and activities so far today at the BSA FAR group conference. Leaf prints given to us by Rachel Stewart as part of their talk on their tremendous walking interview project.

Half day at the lovely #MadCrip2025 this morning then off to Bristol for tomorrow's Doing Research Differently conf.

Dinner at a Lounge which I enjoy for their reliably flexible veggie/vegan/gf menu, and that you can order stuff to hack a halloumi curry

Just finished checking presentation for time for tomorrow's #MadCrip2025 symposium. Looking forward to presenting this from a forthcoming paper (through round 1 of review, edits pending) and hearing from a very exciting line up of speakers

I have just received the thoroughly excellent mug I ordered from @mxfrankduffy.bsky.social and it is the best thing.
