I took one of Nova's carabiners up to this beautiful volcanic crater lake (Onami-iki) in the Kirishima volcanic mountain range. I think she'd have really enjoyed the view.

FDA on one hand: estradiol is incredibly dangerous! transfeminine people should not be allowed to have it!

vs FDA on other hand:

Definitely a functioning country.

Back from a lovely vacation to Japan with @binaryvixen899.bsky.social! We walked around one volcano and drove around another :)

then we did the most absurd return back to the PNW, Kagoshima to Tokyo via Shinkansen, Tokyo to Hong Kong via air, and then Hong Kong to Vancouver. North/south/north, haha

In that vein: keynoted o11ycon.jp on Monday and my protections held.

Oh no, it's come for me.

I've become a Senior Member of the Australian Computer Society!

I've thought for quite some time that it's important for technologists to be members of professional societies with ethical codes; wearing the MIT brass rat only works to a degree (pun intended) for professional norms and ethics.

okay I've had enough of seeing Nazi emblems in my feed. we don't need to keep shoving them in peoples' faces the same way we don't fucking repost shit with swastikas.

we can talk about a thing without platforming it, but apparently we've all forgotten how to do that.

Here's what BA First on a 777-300ER looks like though - very low passenger density, good HEPA filtration, and thorough air circulation. 1000 typical, with small spikes up to 1200, which is perfectly fine for an airplane and in my opinion does not require wearing a mask under those circumstances.
October 19, 2025 at 9:34 PM
Someone really needs to fix the ventilation at CodeNode in London :/

I usually present without a mask when the HVAC situation allows (<850 ppm CO2), but this was the singular worst venue I've ever spoken at, with readings as high as 1800 ppm CO2 under full occupancy and 1000+ under half occupancy.
October 19, 2025 at 9:32 PM
I lied slightly. One "issue": the BA staff were waiting for me at the boarding gate, and pulled me out of the queue. "Ms. Fong? Please come this way."

And then they handed me a new boarding pass, for BA First. I was surprised and delighted. 772 -> 77W so they treated the top 8 elites on the flight.

I don't think they'll be letting this airframe anywhere near US airspace... (both because it's not ETOPS and also because of its registration number)

Snow leopards pleased.

I am pleased to report that I did not catch COVID from #SREcon. One of the best big conference venues I've been in, CO2 levels stayed under 650 in the main keynote rooms and below 800 in even the low ceilinged rooms and expo hall!

Not the worst survival/rewrite rate in the world...

Slides for my #SREcon talk on Fast, Reproducible Builds with Docker Bake: drive.google.com/file/d/1g-H6...

Fun fact, 42% of our codebase (by LOC) was written this year, and we're only 9 months in! And yes, we're doing 2x builds & merges per week with only 50% more devs, thanks, AI & fast builds!

It is done.

The problem might be here? It seems like blacksky.community still has forced-on some of the bluesky moderators/labellers.

It's still amazing how those things fly. It's a freaking skyscraper that can propel itself off of the ground!

This could help you remember in future! It's helped me :)

And thanks.

btw, Dr. Hooven's brand of transphobia basically boils down to this:

She says (and TBQH rightly so) that testosterone influences fetal and childhood development, but then her (wrong) answer for what to do with trans kids is "compassion" and also exclusion from sports, rather than blockers.
