i'm never going to make it as a New Adult author though because I'm too shy for "spice"

that's for the "writing with ai" subreddit, but all those posts are like: "why is everyone discriminating against my writing" and "why won't Claude let me kill my character"

Listen, I mostly care about this because I think there are some otherwise well meaning people who have a general sense that popular book trends are "bad" and also have some criticisms of how we teach reading and writing in school, and are vulnerable to some sneaky right wing talking points

interesting! I think we just had one "reading" textbook that combined grammar lessons and excerpts for reading comprehension. I can't remember us learning much more than what nouns, verbs, adjectives etc. were. There was a whole chapter about telephone etiquette though

I don't even think teachers are bad to tell kids not to do it, but I would have benefited from them telling us it was a classroom rule, not a style guide rule

i feel really stupid, but I JUST learned this morning that it is not actually against style guide rules to start a sentence with a conjunction. I knew it was done all the time, obviously, but in the back of my mind I thought it was a common stylistic way of "breaking" the rules

the coloring book thing is SO funny, I was so sad we never got to see inside of it (as far as I know)

sorry to be mean, but i read a short excerpt and i do not trust the author's ability to tackle the subject matter even a little bit
