5,000 @nymag.com readers & counting have told Vox Media they plan to stand with @nymagunion.bsky.social if we walk out. Tomorrow we're back in bargaining. The time for a fair deal is now. If you haven’t signed, tell Vox you support New York’s 150 union members: nymagunion.org/reader-pledge

Wrote about one of my favorite places in New York, a cultural and political crucible of Jackson Heights that is now fighting for its life. Among others, I heard from countless musicians, Jessica Ramos, the former booker for ABC No Rio, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

In the run-up to "Mood Machine's" release date, Liz Pelly said she's often asked by readers what alternatives she proposes in terms of digital music discovery. But Pelly said she'd much rather talk about the other way to discover music: real frickin' life!

In 2024 the
Best movie I saw was Janet Planet
Best book I read was Say Nothing
Best album I spun was Tigers Blood
Best show I attended was Cats: The Jellicle Ball (close second Grenfell)
And I heard so much good music I can't choose among my beloved darlings

...Basements like this one at HERE? "Utopia is a direction" says syd island, which feels right, since all the best theater is downstairs somewhere, underneath the regular venue. Anyway, there are two more performances of Friend of Friend, playing uke, accordion, and banjo, making a glorious noise.

I loved "room room room in the many mansions of eternal glory for thee and for everyone" by the theatre-band Friend of Friend at HERE: half a gentle lecture on the Publick Universal Friend (an 18th century trans prophet), half a pseudo-church service, complete with a sermon on hyperpop (1/3)
