Feeling inspired and energized after today’s #StandUpForScience rally at Berkeley. Huge turnout. Fantastic speakers, including friends, colleagues, and Nobel prize winners (pictured here, Jennifer Doudna, inventor of CRISPR).

Nothing to see here folks.

Just a whole lot of federal fraud and waste.

Wow. RIP Donald Shoup. What a big thinker who moved forward urbanism in an awesome way.

I was lucky to have crossed paths with him.

Double dislike

Yeah, for sure. But these areas in the photo constant have drivers in and out of them with really dense pedestrian volume and it doesn’t make any sense to me (there are about 15 C permit parking spots distributed along these path, which is what drives the “traffic” here).

This memory from 8 years ago is on my mind today. Keep seeking out your stone of hope.

Staying with my in-laws in DC so on my way to #TRBAM2025 on the 33! Loving the 10-minute headways in this cold weather🥶

Excited to hear all the latest in transportation research and meet/reunite with lots of friends and colleagues!

There was basically nothing we couldn’t do and nowhere we couldn’t go with this setup because one adult could carry any cargo and the other adult could carry both kids. Here we are carrying food and drinks for 50 people plus firewood up to a picnic site in the Berkeley hills.

I considered selling my @xtracycle.bsky.social and buying a new ebike but I loved my bike so much that had a friend covert it into a class 2 ebike with a Bafang conversion kit. The cost was just under $2000. Having two e-cargo bike opened up new opportunities for our family.

Another year passed and ebikes were on the scene in a real way. My husband got rid of the Burley and bought an electric Yuba Spicy Curry, and our family of four (kids are 3 and 5) now has two longtail cargo bikes.

At this point, we started seeing longtail cargo bikes here and there. Curious, we went and checked them out and I came home with this beautiful turquoise acoustic @xtracycle.bsky.social. They didn’t make ebikes at this point (in 2014). Our kids are now 2 and 4 and we have two kid-carrying bikes!

I biked for transportation on and off before having kids but wasn’t sure I’d continue with kids - at the time we had our first, in 2010, there weren’t a ton of options.

But when our youngest was just over 1, we got a Burley trailer and my husband and I towed her various places around town.

New year, new bike!

Over the moon to get this @ternbicycles.com HSD in my evolving journey using bikes as my main form of transportation.

Thought I’d take a moment to share my biking journey as a parent of 2 kids who has now been #carfree for about 7 months and #carlight for over 10 years. 🧵

This is a huge improvement. If only we could get rid of this pork chop and slip right that both endanger pedestrians crossing to BART and cause a protected bike lane to dead end into concrete/fast moving traffic, we’d be well on our way to providing a safe route to transit.

Most of the US is so unwalkable, even a walk to the gym door is unthinkable.

Feeling extremely excited and even more confident that @adenaishii.bsky.social will be the next Mayor of Berkeley! Can’t wait for leadership that is collaborative and supportive and will move our city forward toward a more walkable, bikeable, housing-abundant and joyful community!!!

Ecstatic to see the electorate in Berkeley confirm what I’ve heard from families for years - there is huge support for safer streets in our community. Paving measure FF with built-in safety components winning handily at 60% while competing measure EE is losing by a nearly equivalent percentage.
