...does folks not assume you were speaking off the cuff and kinda colloquially? Like as an example and not to the exclusion of other things?

No no clearly you meant ONLY the dolls get the couch. Then the boys stay on the floor. Enbys have to go in attics, crawlspaces, or voids in the walls.

Do you plan to cover recent political developments in Canada?

Fear of American takeover has been used by PM Carney and several provincial premiers to roll back privacy & env. protections, erode democratic norms, human rights & indigenous sovereignty. It's Happening Here too fast to keep up with :(

Looking forward to listening to this! I'm really fascinated by the relationship of nuclear weapons to state sovereignty.

I suspect @wellerstein.bsky.social would have a good take on Jacobsen's work & this scenario.

Here's his take on Curtis LeMay, who was as much a microcosm of the callous inhumanity of the global apocalypse machine as he was one of its primary architects: doomsdaymachines.net/p/i-have-sou...
"I have sought to slaughter as few civilians as possible."
The rabid, apocalyptic Beat poetry that is "Mission with LeMay"

Once you have fissile material your path to a nuclear IED goes from needing the resources of a nation state to like... the resources of a college engineering department or a mid-level firm.

That they're even thinking of selling this shit is fucking nuts.

The challenge of enriching or stealing U-235 or Pu-239 is like the one reason we don't see more proliferation / terrorism.

With few kg, even a small group with limited resources could build an improvised nuclear weapon.

my city just implemented a bylaw making it possible for cops to fine people if they feed the unhoused

everything is going so very well

I'm reminded of the sniper tactic of shooting to first wound a target, then waiting to fire on those who break cover to recover their injured comrade. It's similarly abhorrent.

Are livestream tickets still available? They don't appear to be for me when I follow the link on the AR Theatre's website.

Many well-meaning people have told me throughout my life that I should get involved in electoral politics; unfortunately, this has been the primary reason that I've not done so. I wouldn't feel at all safe.

I've had mixed feelings about not having that strong of a reaction to this, myself. Growing up on the internet probably numbed me to it, idk.

It's meant I'm the one in my circle who looks into things that are hazardous for others to watch/read about, because I know it's difficult for others.

You gotta start running with a uranium-filled weight vest. Radmax with radium smoothies and yellowcakes to build that critical mass.
