What’s a great way to spend an afternoon in Toronto? Grab a book from a little library and head to a park or café to read ☕️📚🌳

I want to visit as many little libraries as I can, either with my trusty dog Ripley or new baby Hera (or both!) 🐕 👶🏻

Anybody else fantasize about going to a library and doing this when they were a child (…or an adult)?

I’m pretty sure Spain has the best airports for a lot of reasons, but right at the top are the book exchanges I saw everywhere. Unfortunately I didn’t have an extra book to leave behind, but I’ll know for next time!

Also as a nervous flyer I was very happy to see a rainbow before takeoff!

Best Paris graffiti I’ve seen so far.

There was a series of posters thanking various museums in Paris for preserving art. As most people know the Louvre was recently the victim of a heist.

Rough translation: “Thanks to the Louvre for exhibiting this painting of Napoleon.”

Graffiti: “For now”

One of my dreams as I child was to visit Stonehenge and as an adult I finally managed to one drizzling May morning in 2009. Such a powerful place. I’d spend so much time waiting to get pictures without other people in them, but I loved every second. One day I’ll return with my own child.

Now that I have a daughter I thumb through baby books a lot. And I’ve started to notice a disturbing trend…

Do writers not know any words that start with X?

“What’s it like being a new mom?” People ask.

Hera was being super fussy so I thought I’d go on a walk and hit up a few little free libraries. Unfortunately Hera never calmed down and cried the entire time… but at least I found some good books!

My walk took me from St. Clair West Station to Rosedale Station over on Yonge St.

What a cute little free library I found. I really love how each library has its own personality. I just adore the vines and the blue picket fence.

Been very stressed this past week. Hera’s not gaining enough weight and to make things more fun I got a cold. Know what I like to do when I’m stressed? Go to the bookstore!

Wednesday I went for a bike ride and hit five little libraries (though not the original five I’d picked). I had good timing, because it rained all day Thursday, and Friday I was just busy being a mom, haha.

Husband goes back to work after the long weekend, so it will be my last ride for a while.

On the last day or so of the heat wave I had a free hour so I decided to go for a bike ride and visit another little free library. The street it’s on is on a little hill, so it was fun riding down that after.

Bonus marks for having a second shelf, but it’s too small.

I mentioned in an earlier post we’ve been having a dry summer in Toronto. It’s also been hot. I’d say we’ve experiencing a heat wave, but it seems the entire planet has been the same. Mercifully the temperature finally dipped and (as I type this it just started) we’ve gotten some rain.

Took Hera for another #WitchingHourWalk. She’s impossible to get to sleep without one. I kinda like it though, because it gives me the excuse to try and find even more little libraries. I remembered there was one in June Rowlands Park (which I just call ‘the big park’).

Yesterday I took the fam (husband, baby, and dog) for a visit in Scarborough. I used to live there back in the day. I remembered there was a little library near my old school, so brought along a book to donate.
When the moment presented itself (baby fed and dry) I snuck out for an hour to walk over.

Yesterday I had another free afternoon to go for a ride. I took the opportunity to visit not one, not two, but yes a stunning three little libraries (that were all within 500 metres of each other anyway).

I keep wanting to call these my afternoon delights, but I know that means something different…

The witching hour. New parents will be familiar. For whatever reason, many newborns will get super fussy in the evening. Hera’s no different. I take her for evening walks to calm her down… which can sometimes work lol

On one #WithchingHourWalk I visited a little library.

I’m going to make this post shorter, because my last post was immediately tagged spam, sigh… Anyway, let’s continue my journey to visit as many little libraries as I can!

On the long weekend I remembered there was not quite a #LittleLibrary, but rather a #BookExchange at the Yonge Eglinton Centre.

“The books decide to fan themselves during this heat wave.”

(My attempt at Spanish translation. My husband says it’s misleading lol)
Los libros deciden refrigerarse durante esta ola de calor.

Less than two months ago I had a baby, Hera. She finally started taking a bottle, which meant I could go out for the afternoon and not worry about her feeding. I decided to take advantage of the recent long weekend (for #SimcoeDay) and visit some #LittleLibraries in midtown #Toronto.
