You should read one of this years Caldecott winners, "Home in a Lunchbox." The whole book is pretty wordless.

I love how Harley & Ivy are interpreted in the "Love is a Battlefield" comic. We all know Harley Quinn's backstory is forever inseparable from her relationship with Joker, but we get to see that the trauma from that relationship is what led her to her true love and ultimately, her end story

I also find it interesting that up until rescuing Jim, Silver only ever reached out with his cyborg side. Silver explains to Jim how he lost his body parts chasing his dream (of finding Treasure Planet). By reaching out to Jim with his other hand, he proves Jim is more important

After his rescue and reconciliation with Silver, Jim is much more open and receptive to the people around him. He has learned to trust and let people in.

It isn't until the climax when John Silver decides to let go of the treasure and save Jim that Jim finally meets his hand. Notice too it was with Silver's non-cyborg hand signifying how he let go of his dream.

My absolute favorite theme in Treasure Planet is the concept of "reaching out." We see how Jim reached out to his father but was left ignored. We then see how Silver tries to reach out to Jim throughout the story, but Jim is too apprehensive to accept his hand.
