Etymology of the day: to be ‘blowing a hoolie’ (or ‘hooley’) was probably inspired by the Orkney word ‘hoolan’, a howling gale, with a touch of the ‘hooley’ that is a very noisy party thrown in.

Situated on the banks of the Calder and Hebble Navigation at Elland are the ruins of the former 19th century Woodside Flour Mill. It was once the largest flour mill in Yorkshire but changes to transportation methods and a large fire resulted in its abandonment in the 1930s. Image Tim Green

Usually not a fan of coloring black & white movies (never actually) but the image enhancing in this clip from this benchmark vampire movie is pretty impressive.

And the (atonal) music of Anton Webern works extremely well with Nosferatu.

Selby's strategic location near the confluence of the River Ouse and the River Aire made it an important transport hub. In the 18th century, the construction of the Selby Canal further facilitated trade and transport in the region. Selby Bridge Nathaniel Whittock (1791-1860)

For people new here because of the #Discworld thread or any other reason, hello!

I'm Kelli, mostly known as the Opera Geek. I make loud noises with my face and roll very badly in #TTRPG games, much to the amusement of all.
