Well, if you missed it, these were our discussion questions. Thoughts?
Group Work 1. Is Maladaptation inevitable if we don't address deeper structural issues? If yes, inevitability? If no, why? now to do we mitigate some of this 2. The goal of highlighting the potential for Maladaptation is to improve Adaptation interventions. But, it can be hijacked by 'climate deniers' and 'climate obstructors' to undermine policy/implementation. How do we address this? 3. Should Maladaptation be connected only with the final results of Adaptation action, or should it also address the impacts of various phases of the Adaptation process (baselines How would we evaluate this? assessments, design, implementation and M&E and others)?

So the danger of maladaptation raised by this paper (implicitly) is that we almost normalise it and suggest that better planning is enough to address it. Here I want to point back to the final paragraph of a comment by me and Aditi Mukherji from last year (10.1126/science.adq7821) 6/

Importantly, however, the impacts of climate change are caused by both greenhouse gas emissions as well as extractivist, repressive policy approaches by the Global North against the Global South—and those needing adaptation finance have the least responsibility in both cases. A climate reparations agenda would instead give finance to those affected by climate change without, for example, asking for evidence of how adaptation and development activities are separate, or putting stringent conditions to prove that adaptation interventions are not maladaptive (because it is impossible to predict what will be maladaptive ex ante), or making funding conditional on metrics and measurements of effectiveness (because again, not all adaptation effectiveness can be measured). Our hope is that the arguments that we have described here will be obsolete in the very near future when an architecture of just climate finance is in place.'

Before I even arrived on campus, sometime during the summer of 1993 Harold sent a letter to all the incoming students who had said they wanted to study environmental science/studies. I think there were about 15-20 (???) of us who were selected to be part of Harold's special incoming class group.

Probably not again! Forgot about this T-shirt that I purchased in the gift shop in Pyongyang (!!!) in 2011 when Senior was still in power. What a wild trip to do some capacity building on climate policy.

Maybe you can see in the picture? It is shorter and has a kink in it. He uses the hook to hold his tail when he cleans it, clever boy.

Our Thai soi (street) cat from Aree/Bangkok made it to 19 - with a passport full of stamps from 3 continents. He is our special old man, with a typical kinked Southeast Asian tail. The sweetest loverboy on the planet. Starting his 20th year on the planet in good spirits (and a body full of meds...).

Not just Deutsche Bahn f*cks up your life (my day yesterday) but Øresundståget wants to be just as bad (my day today). ‘Signalfel’ and we all had to get off but the train still continued (to another destination). Apparently the next train will be ok?

This is what the room looked like (sadly I think I accidentally deleted the other photos from the room so it's very crooked!). These do not look like returned objects. 4/

The SB62 talks have lots of things to resolve, but the hallways were definitely emptier yesterday, probably with fewer observers (NGOs, etc). Still the dedicated climate justice activists were there as always.
