We need far stronger support systems in the fight against gender-based violence
Committing resources to violence prevention and services for victims/survivors is necessary to meet current and future needs.

My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

It shouldn’t take bravery for survivors to come forward about sexual assault.

It only takes bravery because the systems that are supposed to protect survivors betray them. In a more just world, it would be easy for survivors to come forward and we would all be waiting to hear and help them.

Hockey Canada sex assault verdict: Sports culture should have also been on trial
Sexual and gender-based violence in sport validate misogyny and reinforce sexual entitlement and inadequate accountability. This was evident in the Hockey Canada sexual assault trial.

If you're on Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, etc. please spread the word!

I'm only on here and Instagram, so it can be tough to spread the word.

But the room fits up to 1,000 people, so let's get folks trained!
We've all seen the increase in hate, harassment and violence the last few years.

Unfortunately, most of us don't feel equipped to step in and intervene. We're scared of being hurt or making it worse.

Let me teach you effective intervention - for free!

Relieved to hear that all the advocacy from my sector ensured that Carney re-introduced a Minister for Women and Equality.

Reminder that holding politicians accountable is literally our job as voters.

Calling out Carney did not mean we wanted the CPCs to win. It was for this exact outcome.

Celebrate #InternationalWomensDay 2025 by diving into our audio archives of The Red Berets! This feminist singing group made their debut with "Bread and Roses" in Toronto in 1981, and went on to serenade demonstrators at every IWD - and many other protests and rallies - until 1988.

Reminder: we are being trained not to care about other people. It underlines the attacks on migrants, on DEI, on trans youth, on so-called "wokeness."

Sure there are legitimate critiques but this is not about critiques. It's about supercharging capitalism's culture of uncare.

Just a reminder that fascists, authoritarians, dictators of all stripes destroy archives— books, museums, databases, &c— because those things provide windows onto a plurality of other ways we might organize the world.

And so preserving, defending, and spreading that knowledge harms those regimes.

If you want a real concrete example of what this looks like, take this note my stalker slid under my door.

If you don't know French, the translation is "I will always love you, you have no choice."

Almost verbatim what Julia titled her research!

One thing I realized while writing Our Missing Hearts (which takes place in an authoritarian USA) is that I was pushing back on the idea of the lone savior, the idea that there's a chosen one who will magically solve it all in one battle. The exact opposite is true.

1000% this. Public libraries are actually pretty radical--free to all, and based on the idea that info should be available to all. Get a library card! Use your library! Those numbers often play into their funding.
I also keep thinking that we have to support our libraries.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.
